OHH MAN.

NOT Grand Prix. FINAL FANTASY XIII. Y'know I really have decided I like it. I was fond of the characters and was pleasantly surprised by the ones I didn't think I'd care for. It had the elements of a good FF game. I didn't care for the upgrade system...but I liked that we got ourselves back to classes or at least - sort-of.

That was a MAAAAAJOR pet peeve of mine from 12. I have a lot of gripes about 12, but that had to be a prime directive. I hated the upgrade system.

I liked the battle style curve and wakeup bosses from XIII. I was 'oh holy shit man this is really hard all the sudden'. (Not to totally disparage 12 - it was a really good random battle curve. It was TOUGH.)

The ending made me cry - but, I cry at the end of sappy movies and romantic comedies and can vividly recall being moved by the end of Aladdin (yes Disney) as a wee Ash.

So - that's not too telling.

The implied lesbianism that isn't really because in a classic Square move they decide to genderswap Oerba's gender from male to female at the last moment...hmmm when have we seen this before which resulted in fandom gay stereotypes...Marluxia anyone?

But I don't mind it. I honestly thought the fact that when you see inside the crystal at the end and Vanille and Oerba are holding hands and coiled around eachother (I was already crying when Sash was reunited with his son - that was just heartwrenching) made it infinitely more beautiful being two women.

That's where the floodgates happened. One of the reasons I liked FFX so much WAS the fact that Tidus was telling the story and then (FFX2 aside) it was juat a knife to ye ol' guts to have you get so wound up when he died. It worked equally well to have Vanille tell it here. It's a great trick to let you get attached to a narrator and then give 'em a heart wrencher of an ending for that on to squeeze a few tears out of the sensitive.

I get emotional at the smallest things in stories so hey I have NO idea whether I'm alone in this matter or no.

TF2 has been brilliant this weekend but I'll get to that later
