I know that this is long after the fact but it's kind of been bothering me. Am I the only one who thinks it's a bit...well strange that Rowling announced that Dumbledore is gay? I mean I seriously don't care whether the character is gay or not but why on earth would she announce it outside of the series?! And she gives a history of a love tragedy of his with someone whose name I don't remember because frankly I lost interest in the series after the third book.

If she intends for Dumbledore to be gay then why wasn't this written into the series itself? Why announce it after the series is all over with? Did she want to avoid the fallout of having a 'gasp!' gay character in a popular young people (if not children's) story? That sounds kind of cowardly doesn't it? I mean if she wanted to avoid fallout, fine but then why announce afterward that the guy's gay (when the books have already been sold).

I'm just wondering if anyone else thought this was a strange thing for Rowling to do. I mean what was the point?

dumbledore, harry potter, rowling
