Where we last left my story, I was trapped in Wellington hospital with a tube in my side, having just been told that what I had could have been fatal if left untreated.
Thursday went by very slowly while I waited the results of my latest X-ray to determine whether my lung was reinflating. I had my mother drive 100km to spend the day by my bed, and she and Megan kept me company (although I kept drifting to sleep. Yummy, yummy painkillers).
Finally, at 4 in the afternoon, the specialist came to advise that they were taking the tube out. Huzzah! This was going to be painful - but in the end, removing the plaster from my armpit hair was more painful than the actual tube removal. I wasn't allowed to go home that night, but at least I had the luxury of SLEEPING ON MY SIDE!
At last, Friday brought not only a discharge from hospital, but a week's recuperation. Thus, the total length of time I have worked for the whole of January is 3.25 hours.
Plus, when buying a bottle of wine at the supermarket to celebrate getting out, I got asked for ID. I'm in my thirties, but apparently can pass for 18 on a good day :-)
Now out of hospital, but I can't ride my bike, jog, play tennis, swim or sing for the next 5 weeks until I'm all healed. All I can do is sit at my desk, or stay home and watch DVDs and read books. It's a hard life...
