We need to talk.

Lylith stared at her homework in contemplation for a good ten minutes before deciding she really didn't want to do it. She picked up her phone and contemplated calling Bartholomew, but then it occurred to her that seeing him would probably put mixed feelings in her head about Ethan. She really missed Lo, but she knew if she talked to him then Ethan ( Read more... )

"Don't worry about me," he mumbled, voice thick with angst as always, and shut the phone, cutting off whatever his gregarious (meaning, in this case, loud) friend had started to say.

He grabbed a jacket and found his shoes, but a moment of insecurity overcame him and he quickly went to the bathroom, checking out his outfit in the mirror. It was pretty laid back - jeans, a teeshirt that looked like it had seen better days, old clogs. Maybe Lylith preferred the well dressed men - Ethan, for example. Too bad his gentlemanly ways ran about as far as his expensive clothes - tonight would be a bad night to warn her about him, if he really was who Bartholomew had met years prior. (At that time, Ethan had gone by the name of Kenneth. But different times called for different names, he supposed.)

Finally deciding that what he was wearing was appropriate, Lo made his way to Lylith's, taking about ten minutes overall. It was difficult to decline the many invitations he received while still in the Red Light District, but he refused to give in. He'd find a meal later, under different circumstances.

Joshua perked up a minute before Lo arrived, his eyes lighting up. It almost seemed as though his nose twitched.

"Lo's here~"

"Just how do you know that?" She raised and eyebrow and walked past him into her room, biting her lip. "Bartholomew?"

Bartholomew was just then climbing over her balcony railing, straightening his jeans. When he looked up, Lylith was at the doorway. His words, though silenced by the door separating them, still showed his surprise. "H-hey."

Lylith just stared at him for a minute then turned around and looked at Josh. "Wait, how did you... ah, I get it. So, you're a vampire too?"

It didn't occur to her at this moment that a vampire couldn't drink from another vampire. She was too caught up in trying to figure out how Joshua knew Lo was coming.

Bartholomew shook his head, opening the door to let himself in. "No, he's no vampire. He's got more bark than a bite," he explained. raising an eyebrow at Joshua.

Joshua snorted, crushing his coke can in his grasp. "Yeah, no way am I a dribbly vampire. I'd rather be a werewolf - so much cooler." He disregarded a muttered snap about 'wet dog smell' from Lo and just shrugged. "I knew he was coming. That's all. We're BFFs, man. I can just tell."

"I see. So are you two going to end up breaking any of my furniture, or can you behave?" She smirked and sat down on her bed, pushing the button on her remote that caused the panels on the wall to open up and reveal her TV.

"We can watch a movie or something. I don't have many video games, but we can connect to the internet and play games."

Bartholomew shrugged and sat next to her, sandwiching her between him and Joshua. "Video games with Joshua is a dangerous thing. Let's stick with a movie."

"Alright. Anything in particular?" Her heart still fluttered slightly for Lo and she began to wonder if this made her some kind of whore. She scratched her head then looked over at Josh.

"I don't care. Something with action, and sex." He laughed, reached across Lylith, and punched Lo in the shoulder. Hard. And laughed some more.

"Action and sex... Underworld? That fits the... occasion." She looked at Lo and asked quietly. "Is that okay with you?"

Lo nodded, rotating his shoulder (Joshua forgot how strong he was sometimes). "Yeah, just make that asshole stop punching me. Why is he here, anyway?" He asked it, like Joshua wasn't even in the room.

"Um. I invited him over to talk cause I thought you were busy. Well, because you're usually busy and stuff... and I always interrupt. But now it doesn't matter anymore because, well.... yeah..." She bit her lip and stopped rambling, wondering if anything she said had made any sense at all.

The vampire raised an eyebrow, turning his gaze accusingly to Joshua. Not that it mattered - Lylith was apparently already aware of his change of occupation, but maybe that was a good thing. Maybe she'd be willing to give him a chance now.

"You know.. you never interrupt me." He meant it in a way that he would drop whatever he was doing for her. Anytime, any place.

"I've interrupted you before. Don't try to deny it. I'm not stupid." She shook her head then looked down at her hands. "I know you're not doing that anymore. Joshua told me."

She could feel her pulse quicken a little and she got a nauseous feeling in her stomach as she thought about how in hell she was going to ask him if he was thirsty. Josh had made it sound much easier than it was apparently going to be.
