Mr Host and the Lovely Daughter have taken me on a night Badger Watching Walk. And we actually saw badgers! The badgers are smaller than I imagined - very much the size of a wombat. They also move very fast.
It was a still, mild, early autumn night in the wood. The moon is half-full and the stars were shining.
We also saw deer (Montjuk and a red deer Stag), a hare, tiny bats, and a Barn Owl. We saw the Barn Owl sitting in a tree, going to the toilet, and swooping through the woods on silent wings of death. We heard many disgruntled wood pigeons, and the presence of the owls explains the occasional clusters of feathers I find on my walks.
I've told Mr Host that I'm going to have to re-christen him "Tammylan" if he's not careful. (So who gets that obscure reference?)
