Fic: A Rough Portrait in Black and White

May 30, 2009 19:48

For infinitejoys, who gave me the rather wonderful prompt of Turlough/Charlotte Lucas.

And I begin to realise that I fail at the 'no background whatsover, just a conversation for fun' bit of this meme, but I am having fun.   And, amazingly, this is the first Doctor Who story.

Turlough meets Charlotte Collins (nee Lucas) )

fannish scribbles, jane austen, doctor who, turlough, crossover, meme, pride and prejudice

He didn’t think that was too much to ask, but apparently it was, since Tegan, on learning the date had verged on enthusiastic (for her) and the Doctor had been babbling on about something he wanted to see, or do, or maybe it had just been the weather. He’d stopped listening by then.

LOL at 'maybe it had just been the weather'!

And Turlough, being charming? How unusual! :D

Heh. Thanks. Knowing the Doctor it probably was something about it being splendid weather for cricket...

Hey, Turlough likes to try and charm any girl he meets. Sometimes it even works.

No doubt!

I've only seen him 'Mawdryn Undead' and 'The Five Doctors' - I didn't think he was terribly charming in either of those.

 No, he's not in those two! But he likes to try and sweet-talk his way out of trouble.

He tries chatting up Tegan in Terminus ("You're sweet when you're angry."), Norna in Frontios and lays on the flattery pretty thick for Captain Wrack (who says he has a devious mind). Mind you, even in Mawdryn, Nyssa thinks he's 'rather nice' (or does she say it in Terminus, I forget?)...

And Planet of Fire turns out to be something of a revelation... :-D

Oh, I adore this!! Turlough! And Charlotte! Eee. I didn't know what to expect when I picked these two, but this was great. As far as I'm concerned, this totally happened ;) Thank you for writing it! ♥

I'm so glad you liked it. I really enjoyed doing it, but you never know quite what someone else has in mind and I do have a tendency to fly off at tangents. :-D

It was about time I wrote a proper Turlough story.

Hee, Turlough! Never really got to like diplomacy, did he? Lucky that Charlotte has such a wry sense of humour. This was so adorable!

Thank you! Somehow it was the only way I could imagine the story happening. It was a lovely prompt, as they both got trapped in situations, only Turlough got to escape his and Charlotte just had to make herself a few emergency exits.

Once again on board for only half of the characters, but this is delightful! I do love your prim and proper Mrs Collins :)

I'm glad you liked it nonetheless! Your willingness to read my stories despite bemusement never fails to impress me!

Well, know that it is only because your stories impress me. And knowing several Doctors and Companions is technically knowing something of them all, I suppose!

Aw. Mind you, no companion is as sneaky or as ginger or has such strange eyebrows as Turlough!
