Two Zoos in One Day

Okay, so perhaps we only visited one zoo.  I just thought perhaps since a prison is technically a bunch of people in a cage...

I took my son to see his grandmother in Columbia today.  He doesn't understand why my mother is there or what sort of place it is.  I dread the day when I actually have to explain it to him.  My daughter didn't go because she hasn't been approved for visitation yet (and I'm really sort of relieved).  My mother-in-law watched her.

My mother was pleasant and enjoyed seeing us.  We bought her some food from the vending machines.  She ended up eating 3 sandwiches, 2 candy bars, and a bag of Skittles.  She also inhaled a root beer and a can of pineapple-orange juice.  You'd think they were starving the woman!  My mom's tearful hugs and smiles always manage to put the love back into the love-hate relationship I have with her.  That still doesn't take away my resentment however.

Anyway, since we were in Columbia, we decided to stop by the zoo- the one that keeps the captives of different species and what not....  Riverbanks Zoo to be more specific.

It was a cool day, so most of the animals were out and clearly visible.  I decided to bring the camera along so I could take pictures.  My son wasn't up for posing for any pictures. =(  I did manage to get some really good pictures of the animals.

The snakes ended up giving me nightmares.  They’re so creepy!  I managed to get a few video clips, which I will upload later.  One was of two lizards mating.  All the kids were watching them and you could hear parents saying "I'm not explaining that one!" or "They're just playing honey."  My husband got a video of snakes and a frustrated monkey banging it's head against a tree.  I plan on uploading these to Youtube soon so I can share them.... not like they're anything great.

My absolute favorite animals to see were the meerkats.  Meerkats are my favorite animals next to cats!!!  As you can probably guess, I'm a huge Meerkat Manor fan!!!  I could watch a group of meerkats forage for food and just completely lose myself.  Don't ask me why!
