oh, VD day...

hey, remember when we were in catholic school and they told us to call it "SAINT valentine's day," because it was a saint's feast day? i remember being told he was a priest who was martyred for secretly marrying young catholic couples. wikipedia (oh, so reliable...?) suggests *nothing* is known of his life, and that the church moved his feast day *off* february 14 back in 1969. the catholic encyclopedia online points to geoffrey chaucer as the origin of the romantic love myths associated with the day...*because birds were starting to have sex at this time of year*!

so i was going to say "remember when it wasn't about hallmark?" the answer is clearly "right...neither do i."

so far today, i have awakened to the sound of rhythmic bumping from my bedroom-wall-neighbor's place. i'm pretty sure it was just his terrible music, but i'm really hoping he's got something *big* planned for his gf tonight. that would be just the best.

i stole this from someone on the BSU community: emperor norton's birthday! so much more worth your time to celebrate an eccentric...because isn't that what commercial valentine's day is?

in other news: i find myself taking the long way home; i want to make those suggestions more explicit (this isn't what you think); and i would be willing to trade a back massage with anybody who wants one...'cause i need one.
