O Mistress Mine
O Mistress mine, where are you roaming?
Hmmm okay, so this could apply to the Doctor constantly thinking about Rose and his wondering of how she is and what she's doing.
I know now that this is more applicable to Rose searching for the Doctor - she's roaming through time and worlds...
O, stay and hear; your true love's coming,
I LOVE the implication that Rose is the Doctor's true love. And this line could imply that they are actually going to TALK about how they feel about one another now... properly. and FINALLY
In light of JE this could be taken a few different ways now. It could be referring to how he left Rose and 10.5 at Bad Wolf Bay - like how he's telling Rose that 10.5 IS him and therefore if she stays she will have her true love. It could also be referring to the way they kept missing each other initially - she was so near him but neither stayed still long enough for them to find each other.
That can sing both high and low:
Illustrates that their love has it's high points and it's low points. High points would be their reunion I'm sure, plus other moments like when Rose decides to stay with him in "Doomsday" or when she takes his hand in "Fear Her". Low points would be the beach in "Doomsday" and anytime either of them thought the other was dead.
We've already compared this to the Ood's line to the Doctor about his song ending soon. Also, in the same vein of what I mentioned before about high points and low points... the moment on the beach in JE could be considered both - it's a high point for both of them in that they've finally found each other again, they've just had another grand adventure with all their friends and now there's an opportunity for Rose to be happy with the Doctor "forever" (read as her lifespan) - to live a normal life. And for the Doctor it's wonderful that a version of himself gets to have that life he's always wanted. This is also a low point though, because 10 has to leave and go back to his universe, he's not the one who gets to live that life with Rose. And for Rose it's mixed too because Although she has 10.5 she still wants 10 and it's all very confusing. Of course in the end I'm sure she'll be happy but in that moment, it's definitely mixed.
Trip no further, pretty sweeting;
hmm something to do with no longer having to travel or take a trip....
Once Rose finds the Doctor her quest is over. She finds him, they save the universe again, she ends up with 10.5 in Pete's world. She has no real reason to search for him again. (And once he regenerates she'll have even less - although we don't know that she'll be aware of the regeneration.)
Journeys end in lovers meeting,
... because the quest will end in LOVE... Lovers meeting could mean a lot of things - could just mean reuniting, or could mean a union in another way... although on this show that could really only be shown with a kiss (not that I'd complain about that)
Another one with SO much meaning. - it's almost like RTD took this literally the way he had the Dalek graze the Doctor just as Rose and Ten were about to reunite. In a way, the moment they met again was the beginning of the end of their journey because the ramifications of that - the partial regeneration, channelling the energy into the hand etc - are what eventually lead to the scene in Bad Wolf Bay. I'll stop there for now although there are other avenues to explore with this too I think.
Every wise man's son doth know.
What is love? 'Tis not hereafter;
Present mirth hath present laughter;
These three lines all indicate that love is in the present. It's now. So in terms of the Doctor and Rose, I take it to mean that they need to embrace and foster their love NOW in the moment because...
And they did do this to a degree - they did take some time out in the chaos to hug and enjoy being with each other again, although it wasn't enough in my eyes. I wanted more. But I'm a hopeless romantic so that was inevitable. Also, I'm suddenly thinking of that moment where Rose and the Doctor are laughing together like they used to - that totally applies to the third line.
What's to come is still unsure:
... who knows what will happen and they don't want to miss another opportunity to have that time together.
Definitely true of almost all of Journeys End - none of them knew how that would all turn out. Also, even though JE ended on the beach the way it did, doesn't really mean that's the end, END... "What's to come is still unsure" who knows where that will lead? Obviously they won't be bringing Rose back (especially with DT leaving), not anytime soon, but there is still some uncertainty in what will come of that. It could also apply to Rose and 10.5
In delay there lies not plenty;
If you don't take advantage of what you have now you lose time.
I still agree with what I said before. I also see this applying to the way he left her on the beach (I keep coming back to that) because with the tear between dimensions closing he didn't have very much time to take her back, and he would have had to decide fairly quickly that that was what he was going to do. If he had delayed he would have lost that option.
Then, come kiss me, sweet and twenty,
Youth's a stuff will not endure.
Same sort of thread as the rest... Kiss now - express your love now, while you have the chance because Rose in particular will not be young forever.
Interesting now, that it's 10.5 that she kissed and he is supposedly human as well and won't stay young either. (Although he will presumably age slower than she will) The "Youth" here could also be referring to their age but to the age of love. That love that is new won't endure unless it is fostered... hmmm okay maybe that's a stretch? We'll have to see what you say.
