Once Upon a Time 02x07: Child of the Moon

Making up for being so late posting last week's reaction by posting this week's right away.

Wow. This episode was just. Wow. How absolutely amazing and stunning was Meghan Ory as Red this week? I basically wanted to give her all the hugs throughout the entire episode. I've liked Red/Ruby all along but this season in particular I've really enjoyed her character and this episode solidified that for me. She just gets better and better. Please can we have more Red eps soon? 'Cause I'm completely sold.

Okay, thoughts that go beyond "OMG I love Red!"

Storybrooke

~ They found Fairy Dust! YAY! Does this mean that the nuns will now have their powers back? If so, how's Gold going to take that given his whole vendetta against them.
~ I feared for the hat as soon as whoever it was warned Charming to lock it up. It was just too easy.
~ King George/Spencer is seriously messed up and completely creepy. Not unlike his character on LOST. Although, I don't think his character on Lost ever actually MURDERED SOMEONE WITH AN AXE so at the moment King George is making Charles Whidmore look almost saintly...
~ I loved the scenes with Belle and Red in this ep and I really hope their friendship continues to develop because I'm seriously digging it. I love that Belle intuitively helped her out of the awkward situation with Billy and later believed in her. Especially with Snow trapped in FTL Ruby/Red really needs a friend like that.
~ Props to Charming for believing in Ruby/Red so strongly. I love all the allusions to a strong friendship in the past which we've only really seen glimmers of so far in the FTL flashbacks.
~ I thought the scenes where Charming talked Ruby down were pretty impressive. He totally had me sold.
~ I'm sad Billy was killed - and so senselessly. Ugh. King George makes me ill. Seriously, he's almost more evil than Regina b/c he's so duplicitous and underhanded about it.
~ Is it just me, or is Charming basically the WORST law enforcement person ever? When he and Granny found the cloak he picked up the axe with his bare hand. UM, Charming, don't you think you might need that for evidence? Also, I'm pretty sure smashing a car window to get the registration isn't generally the way you're supposed to do it. Perhaps instead he could have run the plates? And you know, not tampered with evidence? I realize this is Storybrooke and it's tiny, but still. shouldn't he be following protocol of some kind?
~ The scenes with Henry and his dream and later Regina and Gold were fascinating. I'll talk a bit more about the actual dream in my section on FTL present, but I thought it was interesting that Gold said this one was on him. Why? He never does anything without a reason. Does he just really like Henry? Does he feel guilty because he ended up sticking Henry with Regina? Does he know something else about the inbetween world that he's not telling? Is this just part of him trying to be a better person for Belle's sake?
~ How adorable was Red in wanting to go and run in the forest?

FTL Past
~ I love Red and Snow's friendship much the same way as I love Red and Belle's. Was anyone else left really wanting to see the three of them become BFF's and hang out together? 'Cause I'd watch that in a heartbeat.
~ Snow has so much faith in Red. I really liked that. She saw the good in Red before she saw it in herself. Much the way Charming was in SB. Honestly though, I think this is one of my favourite characteristics of Snow - she's always seeing the good in people and she's very accepting of everyone.
~ Random guy in the forest turning out to be somewhat of an ally was unexpected. Totally thought he'd be foe. Sad he died - he and Red had some great chemistry.
~ I didn't like Red's mother. From the first moment she came on screen I didn't trust her at all. I felt for Red through all that though. It seems that no one in her family has ever been completely honest with her. Also I don't quite buy her story that Granny stole her. I think there's more to it than that.
~ I'm glad though that Red's mother helped her accept who she was and learn to control the wolf.
~ So many feelings induced in this episode. Red having to kill her mother to protect Snow was pretty heartbreaking. Her face was just so emotive. Poor Red, she finds her family only to lose them again almost right away. Almost worse than the actual death though was the moment when Red realised that her mother was going to kill her friend. I got the impression she idolised her mother at first and it's always tough to see our idols fall.
~ The scene with Red and Snow in the woods in the last FTL past scene was my favourite though. I was completely touched by the whole conversation, particularly the bits about them being family and when Red told Snow how much she appreciated being accepted for both parts of herself. Amazing stuff.
~ I'm wondering how we got from here to later when Snow is hiding in the woods and Red brings her food and stuff. Does Red eventually go back to live with Granny?

FTL Present
~ Only got a little glimpse of it this week, obviously they're setting us up for future episodes, but we still learned a few interesting things.
~ I loved that it was clear Snow was thinking of Red as she sat in the woods and stared at the full moon.
~ If Mulan has some ideas about Cora, why wasn't Aurora involved in the discussion? Also, why do they need to know where Cora might be hiding? Are they going to try to steal the wardrobe ashes?
~ The final scene in the dream world gave me chills and it ended far too soon. I wanted to see more of that.
~ Last week I theorized that it could possibly be a portal and now we know it's an inbetween world, so I'm wondering if that might somehow be a way they get back if the current plan fails? OR at the very least provides a way to pass information back and forth? I mean, David doesn't seem to have considered that Snow and Emma would be trying to get back to them (which is silly, doesn't he know Snow AT ALL?) so shared information would be good. As would a warning about Cora and Hook. Also if Henry can now control the dream world, does that mean they can go elsewhere within it? Henry was hurt by the fire so could he interact with other things within that world? And if so can they bring something back?
