Lately, there's been so much hate on EXO over Twitter and one can only take so much.
To be honest, I do get the fact that there'll be hate no matter and whenever, since hate for this group
have been there since the start.
From when SM started to put spotlight on them and less on the other groups they manage, hence the hate from fans within SMTown artists.
to the stupid Wolf song that got ranked #1 on different music shows, then to all the shit that happened in 2014 (not a great year for the boys tbh),
to Tao leaving, to Jongin's rumor which caused hate from within to outside the fandom, to the Hallyu ban in
China which had Yixing stay there to keep Chinese sales up, that had caused uproar to EXOLs because he had to miss out a lot of group schedules and to have outsiders believe that my dear unicorn woul also be leaving the group hence, hate all over. Then to them winning their 4th (?) daesang, bacause apparently they are undeserving bastards who's songs flop like shit.
I have my own reservations with EXO, especially the fans, but I do not go around posting it every where and drag them to the mud with it.
I would also like to address issues that people keep firing the fandom/boys.
1). Yixing leaving the group
Everyone thinks Yixing is in China out of personal want. Since 3/4's of Chinaline left, I do understand the pressure put upon him, not only to stay and meet fan expectations, but also to do Chinese promotions. He's been going back and forth between China and South Korea just to fulfill all schedules he's in. Imagine the stress and pressure put upon him, and still people had the gall to call him names. He had to do triple the job because people from his own race left the group. And adding up to that, him releasing an album (he's released his seond baby today! Congrats Yixing-nim!) is being used against him. That he's putting personal schedules over EXO and stuff. A lot of people should be aware of the Hallyu ban in China. It started I guess, around late 2016 and it is due to political conflicts. It affected EXO's schedule a lot. One leg of EXO Planet #3 EXO'rDium has to be postponed (their Nanjing leg), because of it. There also probably are a shift in their Chinese schedules because of it. I miss seeing them in Chinese variety shows, and it would be really awesome to see them in Go Fighting with Yixing.
Anyway, this ban prevented them from entering Chinese market. But Yixing has an established agency there and it would make sense to have him keep the Chinese sales going by doing promotions for EXO there. There's a reason why Lay Studio was established and this I think, is one of the reasons. (And I personally think that it's compensation for his loyalty to SM. But I also would like to see this as a gift for him, for him to enhance his talent more, to have an avenue for him to bring life to his compositions. Idk, I'm sentimential like that. Lol. Don't touch me yall.).
So I realy dislike it when people fire these stuff onto Yixing who's only been working hard both for himself and EXO in China.
2). EXO are nobodies in South Korea
If EXO really are nobodies, then why the hell are they popular? Yes, they do come form one of the big 3. Yes, they've been hyped so much during their pre-debut/debut days. Yes, I know Wolf is a shitty song, that only EXO's name and their choreo made up for its shittiness.Yes, may look awkward at times. Yes, not a lot of people, even in Seoul kows them. Yes, my previous students hated them. With all these and more, I think the ultimate reason why they made it big is because they work hard. Yes, all groups that debut do work hard, I'm not dismissing other groups' hard work, no. I know the hardships each idols encounter, may you be training for a huge company or the smallest one. But I rather am implying that EXO worked hard for all that they have achieved. Yes, it is an advantage being in a huge ass company because they probably have a huge budget for your group and you'll be assured that you'll at least be somewhere, yaknow. But your company name can only do you so much. It all depends on how hard you work. On how you deliver your music. EXO's popularity boost was I think around the Growl era. Growl was catchy enough for people listen to it more than once. And songs in the XOXO album also are really good songs (my favorite EXO song is also there. Call me bias or whatever Idc :)). They were also everywhere then. Guestings on local and cable tv shows were left & right, so they were very visible to the public. Unlike the MAMA era wherein overseas promotions were prioritized. I was just watched Junmyeon and Chanyeol's guesting in "Let's Eat Dinner Together", and even Lee Hyung Kyu doesn't know them. Kang HoDong asked him of "Korea's most popular idol group" and he said "Bangtan Seonyeondan". Lol. (I don't really blame him for saying such, bacause Bangtan has been everywhere since the Billboard fiasco and they've been building name since Fire became a sensational hit.) It hurts that Hodong had to build their name up not only to Kyungkyu, but also to all houses they've been to. It pains seeing Junmyeon's face though. Lol. International recognition is one yes, but still, they're Korean performers/artists and local recognition would be greater than anything else. (Hello Japan and JPop!) Them being "unpopular" is not because they really are unpopular, but rather locals don't see them much on television. Yes, the occasional showbiz news about them gaining awards and recognitions and their success in Asia (as a whole) and in North America is something, but not everyone watches the news y'all. Even I skip local news and only watch it over the weekends, or when I'm digging some politicial shit I'm into. People usually watch variety shows. Saturday dramas even! I believe they should frequent more variety shows so people can "see" them more on television. Weekly music shows doesn't count though. MCountdown, MuBank, MuCore and Inkigayo have had 3-5% ratings since 2012(?)/2013(?). Not a lot of people watch it anymore. It's mainly to cater to the solid fanbases of idol groups. (And also for foreign fans. They come with the Hallyu tour or something lol) EXO is plenty popular, I'm telling you that, but they need to appear more on local shows. I see that Junmyeon and Baekhyun have been casted into a variety show. Junmyeon on the Netflix variety show and Baek with Wanna One on an SBS(?) variety show. I hope they don't flop!! They'll be with other idol groups, so I hope they won't be overshadowed.
3). Not all EXO members have talent (e.g. Sehun is talentless, Kai is so extra, Xiumin is a shadow)
Whenever I see this in my timeline, I always, ALWAYS, want to cut a bitch. Hey, if any member of any KPop group was talentless, why'd their company even let them debut? The company always, always think of the profit, the income they can gain, not only from the group as a whole, but from the members individually. That's why there are members who re "in charge of variety", "in charge of vocals", "in charge of dancing", yanno?
Haters, it seems, love attacking Jongin and Sehun, They, along with Minseok and Kyungsoo, were the most timid ones in the group. I get why they don't speak much in interviews and only answers when asked, but they are one of the sweetest things on earth y'all. Sehun is one hyperactive bitch and I guess he was just too shy during the debut days so doesn't speak much (boy just prolly avoids doing aegyo tbh lol. he loathes that shit on camera but does it freely with members) Jongin on the other hand, is simply just shy. He's long said that in countless interviews and I get him. They're afraid of making a mistake, what with everyone on his back (re: Krystal issue; getting injured becaude of date issue). Boy is just cautios, in my opinion. And it's not only him. They all are. You see how rare they let themselves loose? And I hate that. I hate how hate on them caused that. I hate how some of the hate also came from the fans. I tbh am very much wounded upon learning about Jongin's injury and what caused it. No hate on Krys though, but yeah. As old as this cold heart is, I was wounded...FOR A LONG TIME. Hahahaha! Anyway!!! These vulnerabilities shouldn't be put against them. Sehun and Jongin are very talented dancers. Sehun acting though, I'll...uhh....I'll wait 'til Catman and Dear Archimedes airs. Haha! Jongin did fairly well in ChocoBank and I see that he's received positive comments on Andante's pilot episode. Minseok is trying his hardest to be better in variety shows. He's such a perfectionist that he wants to excel in all projects given to him. EXO CBX may not be a huge hit but it's still a hit. Hey Mama did well. My point here is, all EXO members have talent. Acting may not be their forte now (that's where the hate came most from lol), but they are getting better at it. (DBSK and JYJ aren't really good in acting too! When they started. Jaejae still cringes when his Banjun drama is brought up lol. But look at where they are now. Jaejoong is praised for his improving acting. Yoochun's been a gem in acting, just sucks balls that he can't do movies or dramas in the next few...years) Point here is, THERE'S ALWAYS A ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT.
4). EXO-L is the worst fandom
It was based from
this article and I must say, the hate never stops. Even 5 years after. Y'all got nothing better to do than to shit on EXO and their fans. Yes, I do admit, being one myself, there still are shitty fans out there. No matter if they've been a fan from the start or if they've just been a fan. I see them being RT-ed and QRT-ed on my timeline and I dislike it. Lol. But they are a minority in the fandom now, to be honest with you. One huge problem I have with them though is that a lot of fans feel entitled, especially those who mainly stans EXO. Lol. "Only kings do that", "Legends only". Lol. I get it. Being a million seller to becoming a quadruple million seller in 5 years is a huge achievement. But we shouldn't feel entitled that this would only belong to us. There could be others, in time, that would beat the record we set. This is where, I think, the competition started. And now that stan Twitter is inhabited by pre pubescent fans and haters, timeline has been toxic with all the fanwars everyday, the pressure on fans to vote and stream, I mean, you should do what you could as a fan, but do not surround your shit on your idol. I love my EXOL family and have also made good friends here, but there still are a minority that loves to shit on the name of the fandom. it's the shit they pull that gets noticed and not how most of the fans matured, how they are now more supportive of the boys and less destructive. Idk. I just hate messes like this because as a Cassiopeia, I've had to deal with tons of fandom mess not only for one, but two fandoms. Lol. Arashi fans doesn't really have this type of problem. Most fans are well, mature enough and are easy going compared to the toxic KPop fandom lol
5). BTS is better than EXO
That shit will never, ever leave my timeline. I follow a lot of people from different fandoms since I am a multifandom stan (Arashi, TVXQ, JYJ and EXO only!), and some of my friends/people I follow are multifandom too, so I often see them shitting on each other. And I hate it. When I applied being a staff of EXO PH, I was also asked regarding this. What do I think about the comparisons made on EXO and BTS, what do I think of their fans and stuff. Some of the staff seems to dislike the other group. Lol. What I answered EXO PH is that, I. DONT. CARE. Both boys have talents to love and admire. They both are of different genres too! I mean, when Bangtan started they leaned more onto Hiphop than the typical boy pop song. EXO was more into the dark theme, alien shit. (Lol!) So I don't see the point of comparing them. And one major factor also is that BTS and EXO are friends. Who can even forget that Baekhyun/Taehyung selca? Jimin and Chanyeol are friends. Jiizzes! So I don't really get why fans compare them a lot. Then came 2017, Bangtan made a huge name for themselves internationally when they got invited to Billboard Awards in the US. Hey, Armys, no need to slap this on our faces. Remember EMA 2013 in AMsterdam? Gurl, if we're talking western recogtnition here, EXO had been there. They may not have won the EMA's but they were still nominated yall. And it's been frequent that the boys have been invited to fashion shows, that fashion media is featuring them on their stuff. They're also recognized for their huge following.
I would also like to put it out there that BTS is the only group in their company. (I know Homme transferred there but they aren't actively promoting as members were in the army). All money is on them! And kudos to their PR team. I love how you marketed Bangtan. They cater to the young adults y'all. Their team crafted the boys' album well. The team they have can only focus with one group, they invested in one group, PLUS THE MEDIA PLAY. Y'all haven't noticed how all promotional platforms Bighit would grab on? All social networking sites they joined, so as to promote Bangtan. To throw the name out there. And they are reaping what they sow. They made good use of social media platforms like Youtube and Twitter to get to know what could make them profit more, what shit would fans buy,
I'm not saying SM is shit, but we all know that their PR team needs intervention. Marketing is so-so. They haven't really gone all out with EXO since there are a lot of groups to manage. And I also hate how they shit on their other artists only to focus on EXO. (Gurl, you goi to admit that fact. TVXQ's been a no show in Korea for a while even before entering the military. I love them in Japan tbh, I hope they stay there forevah lol. But it would also bve great seeing them in Korean soil. This has been a problem since they debuted in Japan in '07. It should be in another post lol)
Their media play isn't that great tbh. And this year, their comeback schedules are so fucked up, more than my life! And that says a lot to be honest.
I understand these are planned and shit, and the boys are a part of it too but SM should step up on their gameplan y'all. (I'm glad Kim Young Min isn't CEO anymore. I abhor that man so much)
Point here is, there are factors wherein one group excels more than the other and vice versa, but at the end of the day, they are both different groups. Each will have their time to shine. I love both boys so much tbh. I went to see stalk Bangtan way back 2014 and they are nice, handsome boys. Lol. But yes, EXO is my main gem. And I love them so much.
There still are countless shit thrown on EXO apart from what's mentioned above but I hope these hate stop. There's no point in throwing dirt on something you don't really know. All haters probably do not know EXO that much, thus the hate. You hate what you don't know. If you really aren't interested, scroll the fuck up and pass by any EXO related stuff. The boys are a pure gem and they do not deserve the hate put upon them. It's been 5 years and I hope we can put everything to rest.
