So, after spending the last two weeks having left work and moving out of my London flat, sorting out what's left of my belongings and touring the country saying goodbye to all my friends....it's now come to the final goodbye to this country I've called home for 9+ years.
Everything I'm not taking with me has been packed into cardboard boxes and stored, waiting for me to arrive back in Australia and arrange for international delivery to myself. I packed my rucksack and daypack yestreday, and am now on the way to St. Pancras International station to take the Eurostar out of London and start this epic journey of mine back to my home country. I have no idea how often I'll come across free wifi or internet access, but I'll pop online when I can.
Goodbye London! You were my home for nearly a decade, and such an international city housing an eclectic mix of history, culture, races, religions, languages and cuisine (and the odd bombing and riot here and there) has been incredible to experience, and something I'll never forget.
And goodbye to Great Britain, a lovely country I tried to see as much as I could, from the bustling cities of Manchester and Edinburgh, to the green stretches of Wiltshire and the Scottish Highlands, the quiet Welsh hamlets, the pebble beaches along the southern English coast, and the occasional historic ruin or castle; the small crowded island country that eventually adopted me as one of its own, turning me native and changing my accent. And especially to all my friends I've made over the years across Great Britain: thanks to you all for becoming a part of my life here.
I have a strong feeling I'll be returning here again in the future. Maybe not immediately, but maybe in the next 5 years? Who knows. But I'll be back.
Next stop: Belgium.
