Been over a month

And in that time I've:
* Fully relocated and have transferred al my non-mobile possessions into the Forest Park residence, heretofore called "The House." However, I will also (and currently am) housesit my grandparent's place, heretofore simply going by "Jonesboro," during the weekends until such time as my grandparents are fully living up in Blairsville.

* Gas, cable, internet (Xfinity for both cable and internet but non-wi-fi), power, and water heater are all go. And all my mail stuff, except for my GameInformer subcription, has been corrected to the new address (ask me what it is if you need to know). Catching up on youtube has worked well, but due to the security issues of having to use a secondary account on Matt's Windows 7 PC, I can't watch any embedded yt videos.

* Gotten a little more versed with driving (maybe half an hour at Tara Stadium's parking lot and driving all the way to Sam's Club, taking the shortcut, need to feel confident and COMPETENT enough before October 15th if I want to get a driver's instead of renewing my learner's yet again.

* Gotten a Sam's card. Although we're both in the system, their card printer screwed up so we only have my membership card. Haven't returned to get that rectified yet.

* Did some job hunting over at Southlake. Turns out they'd axed the customer service desk in the middle of the mall, as well as the blue notebook containing hiring info from the various stores. I was looking for anything NOT dealing with shoes, clothes, or food service. Sadly, this only left GameStop, Spencers, and the department stores (Macy's, Sear's, and JCPenney. Apparently FYE died off and became a store for school uniforms:
- GameStop said I'd have to print out an ap from online (cutting costs by ditching printing costs of physical applications?)
- Spencer's might be a decent shot; right now they've got a pregnant woman working at the store whom will likely be leaving when her condition nears expiation and the employee (forgot to get her name) told me that while the manager was serving jury duty that week, she would be returning on Tuesday so I'm planning on stopping by (after getting hold of Linda and Amanda for permission to use them as references) Tuesday morning to drop off my application and ask about a potential job. The only odd thing about the application was that it asked for the past decade of my work history.
- Sear's. After a searing (get it?) 90 question survey in addition to the normal stuff for job applications. I was sent an e-mail the evening of that jobhunt indicating they were looking for more qualified candidates.
- Macy's. It turns out I actually looked good enough to schedule an interview. Unfortunately I didn't check my e-mail until roughly a full day after receiving it and all the interview slots were taken.
- JCPenney. I didn't actually apply there after the long time answering surveys which were mostly of the Strongly Disagree/Disagree/Neutral/Agree/Strongly Disagree sort but plan to do it when I return to Southlake to drop off my application with Spencer's.

* Pete is now a permanent fixture of Jonesboro, but right now Cal is acting disturbed. He'd been taken into the vet for URI, but now he just seems spooked at times and has spent most of the last 2 days hiding under the bed in the guest room, where I sleep when over here.

* The house isn't quite there yet. The house NEEDS AC units or central air, especially with this infernal Summer heat. We need proper blinds for all the windows (my bed is currently right below one of my two windows--one per external wall, so with this heat there's no way I can sleep in the middle of the day thanks to unfiltered sunlight beaming directly onto my body). A good extermination is in order, I can't go 10 minutes without seeing some type of insect skittering along the carpet or around the sinks. I hear the occasional slam from another room and wonder if it's because something pissed Matt off or if he just saw a bug. Oh and it's safe to call this place a bachelor pad, except we don't have a damn MICROWAVE! So much for bringing a box of Easy Mac along.

* Regarding the pantry of this place, I told Matt that I wanted to make sweet tea but couldn't find the sugar. He responded "I got Splenda, it's right by the tea." Hopefully I can get him to switch over to the real stuff. I wanted to make Velveeta Shells n Cheese but we don't have butter. He asked me why you need butter and all I could convey was "it's what all mac n cheese calls for." Realizing later that it probably adds to the flavor as well as offer a bit of binding.

* If I understand him correctly, Matt wants to write a fantasy book but he only has rough concepts and figures I'd be fine hammering, chiseling, and building the whole rest of it, yet I think he wants the effort equally creditted. Nothing he's told me has gripped my interest, in fact this yet-unnamed druggie priest character that he's come up with steers me away from it. That, and he wants to start the story from the perspective of this red dragon posing as a human dragoon, when said character seems to be his stand-in for the Obi-Wan (Eps 4-6) role.

* And with D&D he's flatout said he wants to be the difficult player that somehow manages to provide a useful moment to the party.
Me: "Right now, you're building a character for a game I'll wind up running."
Matt: "What do you mean?"
Me: "Well, I'm not going to DM AND play a character at the same time, and you don't know the system well enough."
Matt: "Why won't you?"
I think I told him something to the effect of not wanting to do both, but really it'd just be more work and less entertaining for me.

* I've also somewhat returned to playing Magic, using Matt's collection. I have repeatedly beaten down his favored deck simply because I know how to build around card costs (a "mana curve" in the lexicon).

Cut for length.
