Unemployment

So, last week a company I had worked for previously asked me back for a one-off install contract, less than an hour's work, 40 bucks, in and out. it was a one time deal, no more. I was seriously debating whether it was worth it, as it was almost an hours drive to the install site, but in the end i figured goodwill with the company and not being able to get whacked for refusing work would be worth the trouble.

Funny, you'd think I would learn.

normally I file my report on sunday, get a check on tuesday, yay me.
so by wednesday, no check, I log in to the system, it seems there's a hold on my account. because I worked one hour, the system thinks I must have been fired, so I have to call the labor board and say, no, I didn't get fired, it was a one shot contract. the lady who helped me was actually very nice, and said that I did the right thing because they could have come back and said I refused work and that kills unemployment dead...

Still. i spent an hour trying to get through to their phone system, and then half an hour on hold (apparently if the computer estimates your wait time longer than 30 minutes, it doesnt even put you in the queue.it just says hang up and try later. when I finally got through, it said estimated wait time 28 minutes... for a 30 second fix.

Grr. I really need a job.

any one hiring a slightly abused techweenie?
