Just Outside The Cat's Lair, Third Earth, Monday Evening

Jul 21, 2014 18:41

It hadn't escaped Snarf's notice that Lion-o had been uncharacteristically subdued since his encounter with Mumm-ra. So Snarf hoped that a birthday celebration would help cheer up the Lord of the Thundercats. He teamed up with the Robear Berbils to set up picnic/barbecue in the open field in front of the Cat's Lair. The Berbils had put up a large ( Read more... )

"Liiiiiiiiooooon-oooooooooo!"

And with a leap, Momoko was hanging off her friend's neck, dangling down his back as she squeezed his neck.

"Hi! Hi! I'm finally HERE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!"

Lion-o, who had been keeping an eye out for uninvited mummies, was just a bit startled at first. But he recovered quickly and even managed to smile for the first time all day.

"Momoko! You're here!" he said. "Thanks for coming. I still can't believe Snarf went all out for this. I don't think I've ever done this much to celebrate my birthday before."

"Of course I came; you're my oldest friend! You should do this all the time, it's so pretty here. Am I going to get a tour later?" She squeezed him again, and looked over his shoulder. "Oooh! Are you going to eat that burger?"

"Of course there's going to be a tour! There's a lot of stuff to see just in the Cat's Lair alone," said Lion-o. " has been mapping out the rest of the area with the help of the Thunderkittens, but they've only just scratched the surface. This place is so vast… Oh, yeah," he added, looking at his burger. "I should probably eat before it gets cold. You should get something to eat, too! Snarf has enough food to feed an army of Brute-Men, but I don't think they understood the party invitation."

"Oooh! Brute-men? I've never heard you mention them before." She dropped to the ground and came around him to take his hand and tug him towards the smell of food. "And if you're not going to share, then come help me pick something to eat. How are the Thunderkittens, anyway?"

"There's not much to talk about when it comes to the Brute-Men. They aren't very social," said Lion-o as he followed Momoko to the food. "Wileykat and Wileykit are fine. They're still just as much trouble as usual, but I've found keeping them busy cuts down on the pranks. They should be back soon. I think Snarf sent them to the Berbil village to bring more candyfruit."

Lion-o, you knew JUST the right things to say!

"THERE'S CANDFRUIT?!?"

"Lots of candyfruit, maybe even enough to make old Snarf start bouncing off the walls," said Lion-o. "The Robear Berbils brought plenty of it for dessert. Of course, there's birthday cake, too."

"If he can get any from me." Her eyes flashed: CHALLENGE ACCEPTED MR SNARF!

"Ah! Will there be time for me to meet any of the Robear Berbils before I have to go? I'd like to thank them for all the candyfruit over the years."

She sighed and sagged a little. "There's so much to do and see and so little time."

"They should be around here somewhere," said Lion-o, looking around. "Robear Bill and Robear Belle helped Snarf get set up. How long can you stay?"

"Only tonight." She looked over a steak of some sort, then shrugged and chose one. "I have a tutoring session tomorrow afternoon that I can't miss."

Stupid History of Communication Graphics, being so stupid.

"If I can stay the night, there's a portal at noon tomorrow I can take and get home in time, otherwise I have to leave tonight."

"You can stay at the Cat's Lair. We have plenty of empty rooms and not enough Thunderans to fill them," said Lion-o, looking sad for a moment. "But that would give you enough time to get the grand tour and meet all of the Thundercats and the Robear Berbils. And Snarf wouldn't have it any other way. He loves having guests, but we don't get a lot of visitors."

"Well, the Portalocity clerk did get confused when I said 'Modern day Third Earth'," Momoko shrugged. "Maybe you should publish your coordinates in the alumni magazine or something? Ah! Or offer tours! Like that one time when a bunch of the graduates went on tours of different people's worlds! It's so pretty here, it would totally be fun!"

"Yeah, the name thing is kind of confusing. I always double-check before taking Portalocity because they've sent me to the wrong place before. And the original portal drop-off for Third Earth used to be a ditch until I complained," said Lion-o. "It could have been worse. At least the portals never dropped anyone off at Castle Plun-darr. They'd end up enslaved like the poor Brute-Men."

"They're slaves?!" Momoko nearly dropped her plate! "Lion-o! Do we have to go rescue them?"

Lion-o chuckled. "Don't worry, they've already been rescued. Robear Bill and I check up on them every so often to make sure the Mutants have left them alone," he reassured her. "I'd love to welcome groups from Fandom, but I would worry about keeping a large group safe. The Mutants haven't been the only foe I've encountered on this planet," he added with a shudder.
