Wow, so far, this week's been pretty good to me. It's been awhile since I've had a nice bit of good stuff all at once. Normally it's spaced out quite a bit, interupted by a bunch of bad...but so far, so good.
To start with, I was playing some poker online, and decided to throw my hat into the first week of the CFL $1,000,000 Tournament special that's running on PokerStars.com. Now, I've been playing poker for a couple of years, and think I'm pretty good, but my very limited experience at big tournament poker hasn't been that great. I do much better at smaller games. However, I want to get better, so why not. Well, out of just under 3000 players, I came in 17th. Not only that, but even as far down as 150 people left, I was leading the whole damn thing. Not freaking bad for someone who is a 'casual' player. That finish was good enough to win an entry into the second round...where the top prize was a Grey Cup prize package, including $1000 travel money to Toronto, tickets to the Grey Cup, passes to all the VIP parties and Barenaked Ladies concert, and entry into the third round of the tournament, that had a prize pool of $1,000,000 and playing against CFL players and poker pros. Plus, there's also a free entry into the World Poker Tour Carribean tournament...and last years prize pool was close to $7,000,000. So, yeah...that was exciting.
Unfortunately, round two didn't go as well as round 1, and I did not win the Grey Cup package. However, two good things came out of it. For one...confidence. I know now that I can play in a big tournament if I focus, and if that were a cash tournament instead of a sattelite for the round 2, it would have been some decent money. Confidence is very important, and now that I know I can do well, I will try and venture more into the big cash tourneys. Second good thing...there's still eight more chances to get that CFL Package, as the tourneys run every week.
So, that was a nice start. And then, earlier today, I got a call from Chez 106...turns out that I won the draw to be the official Chez 106 photographer at the Scorpions concert tomorrow night at Lebreton Flats! With the package, I get a brand new digital camera from Visitek (don't know what model or anything, but I'm assuming it's nice hehe), VIP tickets to the show, access to the photo pit for the first two songs of the show to take pictures for Chez106.com, and...and coolest of all, I think...Backstage passes for after the show to meet the band, and get things signed and photos etc.
I'm hoping this run continues for quite awhile!
