Podfic!

Jun 09, 2010 05:45

In today's very cool thing, luzula recorded a podfic version of my Yuletide story, Jungle Favor Go With Thee. Hearing your own words spoken is always so very, very strange, but it was very neat, and she did a lovely job, even with the sometimes awkward phrasing she had to work with! You can hear it here, along with audio version of lots of other great stories.

The Tudors is so dazzlingly inaccurate, but so pretty.

I have thinky thoughts about Doctor Who, up until "Amy's Choice", which is all I've seen, but I can't formulate them yet, so I will just meme.

Day 05 - A show you hate
American Idol.

Okay, I hate most reality shows, but Idol is the one I've watched the most, so I'm going with that one, though there's a lot of scripted shows I've hated over the years too, things my parents watched that I saw, but didn't like.

American Idol is easy to pick on though because it's SO EASY to get caught up in it when it's such a media juggernaut, but I am consistently enraged after I watch it - which I frequently had to do, since my family watches it. Because the few people that are actually tolerable NEVER win, and they keep people who are horrible week after week. (Tim Freaking Urban, you guys. I wanted to cry every time he wasn't sent home.) And then there's the sheer stretching and product placement and the interminable bad auditions that get brought back and shown over and over and over. (The drop your pants dude had a massive three minute performance on the finale. I wanted to throw things.)

And then there's the fact that they either do the same damn songs every season - or they try something new and butcher holy hell out of it.

So yeah. American Idol. To be fair though, there are some reality shows I watch. I like So You Think You Can Dance (Though I'd happily ship Mary off to some deserted island where no one can hear her screaming), and I like RuPaul's Drag Race - it's entertaining, I have no excuse, and a few other talent-type shows now and then, like Food Network's sugar sculpture/cake art contests, or stuff like that. I don't watch them regularly, usually, but I like them okay when they're on.

Runner Up, I'm going with American Dad, which I have never, ever seen be funny, and Seinfeld, whose moments of funny were so vastly outnumbered by he obnoxiousness that I couldn't stand it.
