Another day, and another entry. Apparently, I have a lot to say these days. Here's today's story:
Today was another average day in summer school. In other words, it was hot. Because it was hot, I propped the door open to get at least a small breeze to help cool off the room. As I was helping a student at one end of the computer lab, I heard a soft tinkling sound.
I turned to see the quizzical look of a small, poofy, black pomeranian dog looking about the room. I began to walk towards him only for the dog to turn and walk out. I followed, and there he was, just outside the door. There were some people working on the baseball field, so I wondered if he was with them. He was wearing tags, and I thought that perhaps the tags would reveal where he was supposed to be--either with the people on the field or somewhere in the neighborhood.
I reached down to let him smell me (I don't just touch strange dogs without at least a little introduction). He took one hesitant sniff, then growled! I started laughing and he ran off. I guess I offended him.
I returned to the room and resumed my teaching duties. When no one needed my help a few minutes later, I took a peek outside to see if he had returned.
Rather, he was near the people working on the field (that answered one question), laying in the shade. As soon as he saw me, however, he leapt up and began barking his yippy little head off. Apparently, he really hated me.
At the break, a few of my students headed out to the field to see some other kids who were working on the field. When I went out there to let them know that break was over, the dog ambled up to me and acted like I was his favorite person ever. What the crap?
I guess I look freaky in the dim light of the computer lab, and totally friendly in the bright light of the baseball field.
