What a load of BIskek!

Holey schmoley friends ... I am in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic through the 15th for a conference the MC is putting on for the region. What a place, I tell you.

Anyone ever been here? Not too terrible, bt I have to tell you we flew in at night (0200 local time) and you know how when you're flying into somewhere at night and you see all the lights from the cities and houses everywhere?

Well, you don't see that here. Not in this ocuntry. In fact, on that little map of the world with the plane showing you where you are flying, it has the lights of the cities on there for all of the countries. In the region with the 'stans, there are very few lights. THe people are fairly nice. Of course, as I only know "please" "thank you" da and nyet, who the hell knows what they are saying about me otherwise. hehe. But it's very interesting to look at them from an ethnic standpoint ... they look distinctly Mongol/Chinese ... broad faces with the Asian eyes, the girls have the little body frames like other Asian women so you can definitely see their heritage there. And then, once in a while, you'll see people who are distinctly different still - tall, maybe more Russian, a little slavic/nordic. It's very interesting. Us? Us Americans and GErmans? Well, we stand out. :) And you can tell each and every one of us with no problem.

I'm hearing - I have the winow open - I'm hearing what sounds like fireworks, but no sparklies in the sky. DOn't know what it is, don't want to know. It's national Woman's Day which is nice ... everyone was in the square hanging out with their wives, girlfriends, the girls hanging out together hoping to find guys. Spikey-heeled boots, plastic looking, are in fashion here.

Anyway, here are some pix:

lot of interesting sculptures in this park ... will post more when I'm at home.

And finally, remnants from the past:

You can tell the soviets had built up the infrastructure quite a bit. Alas now it's quite not good any more. Hopefully they will get better.

On a good note, the BUndeswehr is going to give me two crowns! I just have to pay for the materials. Very nice about it (free medical and detal care for civilians through the German Bundeswehr. LIke the USAF, it's probably not the best medical/dental care, but hey it's free.) I like free. I'll like crowns better. :)

OK it's after 12 midnight. Have to get my beauty sleep.

Love yez!
