Hey, first of all I'm not used to making posts on other peoples journals or expressing my ideas.. so bare with me as this will take some months to get right..
okay :)
"the change is to something more attractive to the partner it is seen as an affirmation of love, if the change is to something less attractive it casts doubt on the love." I don't know why, but in my experience, this is true! its so bizzare...
If the prospective partner is already everything the woman might want there is no opportunity to affirm their love, only opportunities to cast doubt on it. Now this, I'm not sure on, There are plenty of ways to proove ones love, especially if you're creative. The woman (in my knowledge) adjusts to this and accepts that she has a well connecting relationship. (and is happy) right? well thats how it was for me once.
Good theory, makes sense. I think you've also got to consider that women are often searching for the "perfect love", while men are searching for someone who will meet some less extensive requirements. A man finds a woman, sees that she meets these requirements, gets into a relationship with her and he's happy. A woman finds a man, sees potential for the "perfect love", gets into a relationship, then finds he isn't so "perfect" (he leaves the toilet seat up and forgot to call once when he said he would). Terrified of losing the "perfect love", she strives to dig it out of him - she knows it's in there somewhere!
Very true, The original theory only really dealt with why some people seem to when faced between potential partners one of whom is closer to their perfect love, and one is more distant from the perfect love, they seem to choose the one who is more distant.
Also I must acknowledge that it can apply to some men as easily as to some women.

People will settle for scraps...
[A less charitable view is that it is a way to demonstrate power...]
