Why do women want men that they can change?
A while ago a i came across a conversation asking why would a woman want a man they can change instead of finding a man who already had changed?
Someone answered because she wanted a challenge.
I did some thinking and think I have a better explanation.
The woman doesnt so much want to change the man as want the man to change himself.
When someone changes in a relationship, if the change is to something more attractive to the partner it is seen as an affirmation of love, if the change is to something less attractive it casts doubt on the love.
So the more room for change in the prospective partner, the more room for proving their love. Of course there is also more room for failing. If the prospective partner is already everything the woman might want there is no opportunity to affirm their love, only opportunities to cast doubt on it.
