Pretty much any weekend spent with Ben will be a good weekend though, so I should probably use a more descriptive entry title!
Friday we were both exhausted after long weeks, so we didn't do much but chat, have some hummus, watch the latest episode of the Office and snuggle. Yesterday though we hit a small wooded area in Chino Hills for more bird diversity in a quarter-mile walk than we've seen just about anywhere else in southern California -- a Cooper's Hawk, two woodpeckers, house finches, yellow-rumped warblers, goldfinches, bushtits, Anna's Hummingbirds, crows, and a few unidentified singers in the brush. That was fun. We watched some MST3K after, then played Yahtzee! for a few rounds before heading out to the Elephant Bar for dinner. It's a very cool place for a chain restaurant -- awesome safari-themed decor, with giant elephants coming out of the wall and delicious seafood and chicken. I had teriyaki chicken, Ben had orange honey shrimp, and we split a coconut-fried shrimp appetizer. Mmm. We also had an ENORMOUS piece of cheesecake drizzled in caramel and fudge... oh goodness, my eyes kept rolling back in my head and I kept getting half-orgasmic looks on my face. Extremely dense amounts of sugar make me feel flushed and make my teeth tingle, so I was going nuts!
We ended out the evening with going to see Watchmen, except we saw it at a drive-in theater! I didn't know any were still around! This was 2 miles from my apartment and a ton of fun. The place is decked out in tiki decor, and it's $7 per person for a DOUBLE feature. We just wanted to see Watchmen the one time at 10:40, so we didn't do the double feature this time, but I can see this being a fun hangout on weekends. We didn't do as much chatting or making out during the movie as I had expected, ha, mostly because once it started I was too wrapped up in that to think of much else. It's no masterpiece, but I definitely enjoyed it, and it did raise interesting questions of morality. I especially enjoyed Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan. Rorschach was both creepy and malevolently adorable, lol -- he was so short next to everyone else! As a short person myself I find that cute. ;) Yes, yes, sociopath and all that, I still liked him. As for Dr. Manhattan, I'm down with anyone who's accidentally turned into a god through a terrible science accident, haha. He reminded me more than a little of Paul Maud'Dib as the Kwisatz Haderach; I think our perception is that anyone who is able to see through time necessarily becomes more and more removed from the present.
Today was filled with much canoodling and terrible movies and just being lazy and goofy with each other. I love that Ben :)
Nine days away from our fourth anniversary. Whee! :-D
