My dad's been home from work for the past week and a half, has had 5 or 6 trips to the doctor, and a huge battery of tests, and they still don't know what's wrong with him. He's weak, he shuffles, his fingers and feet are numb and tingling, and his abdomen still feels swollen. They found out that his liver was enlarged and think now that he's having some kind of heart problem; he's going to see the cardiologist on Friday. Today on the phone his doctor brought up the possibility of Lou Gehrig's disease -- a fatal, incurable degenerative condition that's often hereditary. Most people die within 3 years of diagnosis. "Do you have a family history of this?" she asked. But my dad is adopted and it was a closed adoption, so we have no way of ever knowing what runs in his family. :-/ She recommended he see a neurologist as well. He's going to have to miss even more work now... and he's not any better, and we still don't know what's going on. :(
