I am so neglectful of the LiveJournal. :( I apologize!
Here is the final part!
August 25-29 (Days 10-14)
Kyle and I awoke early after our Niagara Falls adventure and bid a sad farewell to Mom and Dad as we hopped on the train to the big Metropolis known as Toronto. We arrived at Union Station around 11 in the morning and took a cab to our hotel, the Delta Chelsea (thank you, Expedia.ca hotel packages). The hotel was in a nice area, close to Younge and not too far from the University campus. The hotel itself was also really nice, there was a buffet-style cafeteria that served sandwiches, salads, hot entrees, fresh fruits and vegetables, and desserts. Kyle and I enjoyed a nice lunch out in the hotel courtyard (and got to mingle with the pigeons). After lunch, we hopped on the subway to the harbourfront, and after a brief moment of confusion when we realized we had walked in the wrong direction, finally found the ferries, waiting to take us over to the Toronto Islands!
The ferry we were on was quiet, so we just enjoyed the ride (and the view):
I've been waiting a long time for this picture, heh.
I had never been over to the Toronto Islands before, and I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful and quiet it is over there. We got off at Ward's Island, where there are really quaint cottages and you feel like you are in a totally different place. Kyle and I found a quiet beach, and since we had missed our opportunity to go to the Sandbanks, changed into our swimsuits and took a dip in the lake (chilly but still fun!).Then, we walked along the boardwalk that goes around the island (Kyle stopped for ice cream first). We walked along the lake and just took in the amazing view of the city across the lake. We took some detours and walked along the paths that went past the cottages. I saw several cats, heh. I would love to retire there or something, the island has such a peaceful feeling to it!
It took us a while to walk to Centre Island, and once we got there, noticed that it was clouding over. We just had time to take in some of the sights of Centre Island (the cute amusement park, fountains and beach) when we decided the rain was going to come really soon, so we headed to the ferry and hopped on, just in time for it to start pouring! Luckily the boat kept us dry and it only lasted for a little while. Once the sun came out, we headed to the Eaton Centre and had dinner at Mr. GreenJeans. Then, too tired to do much of anything else, we headed back to the hotel and turned in for the night.
The next morning, we took the subway to York Mills station to catch the GO Bus to Canada's Wonderland! I hadn't been to Wonderland in a few years (last time I went was my memorable trip with Steve, which I believe I chronicled
here.
Thanks to the magic of Air Miles, Kyle and I had free tickets! It was kind of a chilly day, but luckily the rain held off and we were able to ride on such favourites as Thunder Run, The Fly, Wilde Beast (that might have been my last time going on that - wayyyy to bumpy), Dragon Fire, some water rides, and Vortex. I also went on Sledgehammer for the first time:
More awesome than the Peter Gabriel song....
Of course, I was too chicken to go on the Behemoth and I also passed on this one:
I KEEL YOU!
Yeah, I wish I had a higher tolerance for the more intense rides....Kyle went on a couple that I had been on before, Drop Tower and Flight Deck, but I didn't care to repeat the experiences. I'll post my video of Kyle on the Drop Tower soon!
The day was over before we knew it. Kyle bought a sweatshirt and we ended the day with a photo op:
Tired and worn out from roller coasters.....
We headed back to the hotel to get some rest before our journey to London!
I PROMISE, PROMISE, PROMISE I will have the last entry up by Tuesday night!!
