Time for another travel adventure! Although Ontario is where I grew up, there's still always lots of new and exciting places to explore. And old places to visit, that I never grow tired of! Kyle was once again along for the journey, so of course there was a lot of things he had never experienced before. So without further adieu, here is what Kyle and I got up to during our time there.
Ottawa - Days 1-3 (August 16-18)
Kyle and I arrived in Ottawa in the early afternoon, greeted by Laura! After stowing our luggage at Laura's place, the three of us headed to a nice park on the Rideau River. There were LOTS of geese there, and we even saw a groundhog! We viewed the pretty Hogs Back Falls and enjoyed walking along the trails there. Then we headed back to Laura's place for a nice dinner and some serious Simpsons watching! Kyle and I were so tired, having been up at an insane hour that morning, so we turned in early.
The next day, we headed to the Byward Market to look around and have lunch. We made a stop at this beautiful church, the Notre Dame cathedral (not to be confused with the one in Montreal). After a delicious lunch of sushi and DQ blizzards for dessert, we hopped on a bus and headed over to the Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec. I had not been there since I was a kid. The museum is really cool when viewed from across the river in Ottawa. And it's got some neat stuff inside too. We viewed exhibits on famous Canadian people, Native American history and artefacts, the history of Canada Post, and best of all - the Children's Museum! Lots of fun stuff to do there! Kyle and Laura made me crawl through this one tiny structure - and they didn't follow me! Boo to them! I think this was one of my favourite parts of the museum:
Yeah, that's right, kids: Sharky will pwn you if you dare touch or try to feed him!
After touring around inside the museum, we headed outside to take in the views of Ottawa across the river. Here's a nice one of Kyle and I:
Then we headed back to Laura's (and experienced a looooong bus ride, thanks to the joy known as rush hour traffic and construction). We had awesome bbq for dinner and enjoyed yet more Simpsons episodes! Then, tired after the long day, we called it a night.
On our last day in Ottawa, Laura, Kyle and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Cora's (we now have one in Edmonton but it's waay on the south side of Edmonton, which is practically in Calgary). Then we played a rousing game of Simpsons Scene It with Jon and Laura. I shamefully lost. After my humiliating defeat, I read magazines for a bit and then my parents arrived! I was so happy to see them again! We all went out for dinner at this yummy restaurant (Ks on the Keys, I think it was called?). I had fish and it was delish. Heh. Heh. heh?
Then, we all piled in the car (minus Jon, who was staying to defend his abode in Ottawa) and headed for Belleville. On the way there, we drove down the beautiful Thousand Islands Parkway and stopped in Ivy Lea. It was a nice, quiet evening there and we enjoyed seeing all the tiny islands and the unusual homes. We arrived in Belleville around 9:30 at night and I was reunited with Tony and Cleo, my beloved cats-away-from-home. A great start to our journey! :-)
