Hi everyone, I'm back!!
I didn't really talk about it too much on here, but I have moved out of my old basement apartment to a new, bigger and brighter apartment on the top (4th) floor of a West Edmonton apartment complex. And now that I finally have my internet set up, I can finally write about it!
Things I like:
-The sunlight. I now wake up a lot earlier because it's so bright in my bedroom. I don't have to waste energy by having lights on all the time so I can see what I'm doing.
-The warmth. Of course with all that natural sunlight, it's a lot warmer in here than it was in my freezing basement apartment. I even have to open the windows in here quite often, as it gets too warm! I never did that in the old place, heh heh.
-The dishwasher. Yes, I have a dishwasher. I don't need to use it all that often, but it's nice to just throw the dishes in there when they pile up and not have to wash them all at a time by hand.
-The balcony. I still have to retrieve my lawnchairs from the old place, but once I do, I can't wait to sit out and read on the balcony!!
-The HUGE storage closet. I can store all my boxes, containers, luggage, vacuum, cleaning supplies, etc in one big closet and I have a separate one for my clothes. (Which is also bigger). Yay!
-The POOL and GYM. I used the pool last night and it was great, getting some exercise.
-The fact that I can walk right down to the end of my street, go over a pedestrian overpass and be right at West Edmonton Mall. Ah, bliss!
-The fact that I'm about a 5 minute drive from Kyle's place (probably about a 30 minute walk). I no longer have to wait an hour for him to get to my place on the bus. And Kathy is much closer too!
-The microwave that Kathy generously lent me because she wasn't using it. One less thing I needed to buy!
-The bathtub! I have a bathtub, finally! I took a bath the other night and it was wonderful..............
-The laundry room is right next door to my apartment, which is ultimately convenient
-Just the large amount of space I now have to store all my stuff! I have room to get more stuff if I want it!
-The FIREPLACE. I have a FIREPLACE in my living room. Unreal.
-And much more.
Things I don't like:
-Having to pay $2.00 for washing my clothes and $1.75 for drying. Prices have gone up since I used coin laundry. I miss the free laundry at my old place.
-The fact that I have a pretty crappy view. Right now my apartment looks out on a construction site for Misericordia Hospital (they're building a parking garage). And of course, construction sites are noisy, so that's a bit of a pain too, but I'm getting used to it.
-All the stairs I have to walk up to get to my apartment. Being on the top floor definitely has its disadvantages. Moving my stuff up was a bit of a nightmare, especially for Kyle, who had to carry most of the heavy stuff.....and buying new furniture in huge, heavy boxes was no fun, either...but at least it's all moved in now.
-Even though I love my new furniture (I bought a bed, futon/sofa, dresser, computer desk and kitchen table), it was a pain to go out and buy them and transport them here. I took for granted all the furnishings that I had in my old place.
-No curtains on the windows and the crappy, cheap plastic blinds on my sliding door out to the balcony. I have to buy my own curtains and I could do without those blinds. But oh well.
And I do miss having a backyard and being so close to Whyte Ave/Downtown. I'm further away from Bev, Nathan and Rob now. So those are definitely minuses. But, all and all I really love my new place and am happy to be finally moved in!!
I will be posting pictures soon, once everything is all set up and organized. (We still have to put together the kitchen table and the computer desk, and I have to organize my bedroom.).
Cheers for now!
