This weekend, visited the Carnegie to see the suburbia show, which, nearly met expectations? There were a couple of good pieces -- one about Fishkill, NY's Dutchess Mall by Interboro Partners. Unfortunately, the group's suggestions for interim landbanking solutions were never realized and the mall was flattened in 2006 for a Home Depot.
The winner was Life on Mars, a meandering show with some delightful surprises. A few favorites: Ranjani Shettar, Barry McGee, Thomas Hirschhorn, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Mark Bradford. Art still seems to be a man's world, as only 12 of 44 artists are female. (I wondered if my selection was particularly male-centric...and it is, but only a bit.).
