So I watched Heroes last night. Loved it. Here are some thoughts, don't read if you have it taped and plan on watching it later or something...
First of all, I love the whole premise. A nice escape from the traditional "super hero" mold. I fear that after the "discovery" storyline the show might grow a little stale, because it's so much fun watching people discover their powers.
Best power: Hiro, the Japanese guy. The ultimate everyman (ironic, since he's the only non-American in the show), a cubicle slave who discovers he's different. Of course, his abilities are WAY WAY too powerful. The ability to turn back time or teleport anywhere? It creates the ultimate escape for the writers in any situation. I promise at least once during this season he'll save a friend who was dead by turning back time.
Creepiest: Hands down, "Mustang Sally" (whatever her real name is) with the homicidal reflection. That was a damn cool idea on the part of the writers. I don't know how helpful she'll be when trying to save the world, but it's still original. Next creepiest is the cheerleader sticking her hand in the garbage disposal. ::cring::
Other random thoughts: As I mentioned earlier, the show is very centered around the USA. I hope they expand around that in the future. The "flying brothers" subplot is kind of lame. The ODing artist who draws the imminent attack on NYC was predictable. The whole premise of how people got their powers ("next stage in evolution") seems very "X-Men"ish. Also the villain is kind of "eh" so far. He doesn't pervade evil, or mystery, or anything in particular. I hope they can fix that soon.
Despite my criticisms, still thought it was a great show and I'll be watching next week. I think I just like the idea of having superpowers...
