... And yes we do!

Last Wednesday Brittany and I trekked to darkest North London to see Franz Ferdinand play the first night of their four-night residency at Alexandra Palace. We'd managed to get right near the front and to the left, only two people were between us and the barrier, so we were pleased that we'd managed to get so close. The first support band were The Rakes, who were great fun and got the crowd dancing (though no-one can dance like Alan, The Rakes' singer). Next up were Editors, who weren't as energetic as The Rakes, but they're intense, almost Joy Division-esque. They were good but they couldn't even touch how great they were when I saw them at Reading, but then their style doesn't quite suit the cavernous Ally Pally. On to the main event; Franz Ferdinand come on to rapturous applause and played 2 songs in front of a black curtain before Alex Kapranos declares "And yes we do!" as the band launch into the storming 'Do You Want To' and the curtain drops to reveal a black and orange backdrop with a giant tv screen and a dazzling light show, simply breathtaking. They played a brilliant 18-song set, and the band had a great stage presence, it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to.

In other news, I had a lazy weekend though I did have an enjoyable night out in the pub in Richmond with my friends on Saturday, no late license though.(?) I've also bought tickets for Brittany and I to see Belle & Sebastian in Brighton in February, it's on a Friday night so I think we're going to make the most of it and spend the weekend there. Finally, my mate Eddie is going to be living in Prague for 6 months from next March so Andrew has asked me if I want to move in to their flat while Eddie's away, with a view to us finding a place for us all to move into when he gets back. I'll admit that I quite like the sound of this but it all really depends on Brittany's situation, and we may have some good news about her visa soon so I really can't commit to anything yet until I know for sure what's happening.
