"What?" asks Dean.
"It's just--" Sam coughs. "It's Christmas tomorrow."
Dean considers. "Huh. Is it?"
"Yeah."
"Weird. You don't think Jesus is gonna show up, do you?"
"How many times do I have to tell you? Jesus was not born at Christmas."
"Yeah, but he's gotta know it's his day now."
Sam slants him a look. "So you believe in Jesus now?"
Dean shrugs. "Apparently I'm an archangel. I figure Jesus isn't any weirder than that." Sam laughs, but he looks nervous. "What?"
"Just, you know. Christmas."
"I thought you hated Christmas."
"I kind of--last time wasn't bad. I like Christmas when I'm not waiting for dad to come back, or wishing I was normal."
"You're not wishing you were normal right now?" Dean asks, and immediately regrets it.
Sam winces. "Yeah, you're right. Never mind, it was--stupid."
It hits Dean somewhere around his ribs that this is Sam trying. This is Sam doing his best to be brothers again.
"Nah," says Dean. "I bet we can find something to use as a tree. Right?"
Sam looks over at him, smiles at whatever he sees.
"Yeah, I bet."
