Then there's Chad, who smells terrible and swears all the time and doesn't know how to clean anything. All Chad's stuff is on Jared's bed at all times, and there's nowhere to put it, so he ends up picking up a pile of blankets and pretty much relocating into the common room after only a week.
He's shocked to find someone already there.
"Uh," he says, hesitating at the door. There's a guy in a sleeping bag by the TV, and he's got enough stuff that it really looks like he lives in here. "Hi?"
The guy looks up. "Hi."
"Um, I didn't know--" he makes a vague gesture, but it doesn't really work because his arms are full of pillows and blankets. "My roommates covered my bed in shit so I was just going to crash in here."
"You too, huh?" asks the guy. "Come on in."
"What happened to you?" asks Jared.
"My roommates are dicks," says the dude. "It was either this or I strangled them in their sleep. Or their lack of sleep."
Jared puts his blanket down and starts fashioning it into a mattress-like thing. "Huh?" he asks eloquently.
"They started hooking up, like, the second day," he explains. "So I'm the third wheel in my own dorm."
"Shit," says Jared. "That sucks, man."
"Tell me about it." The guy glances over. "I'm Jensen, by the way."
"Jared," he says. "Nice to meet you."

Jensen's roommates are named Mike and Misha and seem to make out all the time. Jared doesn't really mind--they're both reasonably attractive, and he's not opposed to good-looking guys getting it on. But he understands why Jensen wants to get away from them. And Jared's roommates are still terrifying, so he and Jensen end up crashing in the common room more often than not.
He likes Jensen. He's kind of bitter and angry, but he's funny as hell, and he's got this slow, brilliant smile he uses when he really likes something that Jared is a little bit in love with.
To tell the truth, he's kind of generally a little bit in love with Jensen, which means he spends way more time than he should in the common room, hoping Jensen will show up.
He's honestly kind of glad that Adam and Chad are dicks.

Saturday night, Jared should be at a party, but he's sick, so he's sitting in the common room, covered in a giant pile of blankets, drinking a mug full of hot tap water. It's pathetic, but his throat hurts, and he doesn't have anything else to drink.
"What's on?" he hears muzzily, and turns to see Jensen leaning in the door. He's wearing a tight t-shirt and jeans and his glasses, and Jared wants to use him as a teddy bear.
"Um," says Jared. "Ghostbusters, I think."
"You're not sure?"
"I'm drifting in and out."
Jensen comes in and hands him something.
"Huh?" asks Jared. He's too out of it to really use his brain.
"Tea. And, if you play your cards right, ice cream."
"Jesus, I could kiss you," says Jared, and then wants to die.
Jensen laughs. "How about a raincheck til you're better, okay? I don't want what you've got, dude."
Jared blinks. "Wait, seriously?"
Jensen settles down next to him, hands him a bowl with ice cream. "Get better and find out."

There's Adam, who's nice, but Jared thinks he must be a Twihard or something, because he glitters at all times. And Jared is gay, yeah, but he's not Adam levels of gay. Adam is so gay he makes Jared feel like a slacker.
is Diet Coke trying to make its way out of my nasal cavity funny! I'd be mad - 'cause that stuff burns - but I am laughing too hard to care ;)
