She's hiding behind Jared's leg. She has these giant eyes and a quivering bottom lip. She looks like a cartoon character. Jensen is possibly not prepared for this.
He likes Jared, he really does. He's actually legitimately pretty crazy about the guy. He knew from the beginning that Jared had a kid, but he hadn't really thought it was a problem. He has nieces and nephews, interacts with kids, he figured it would be fine. Jared's awesome, he's worth trying for.
But Jensen is suddenly terrified of Abby.
"Abby," says Jared, gently, and Jensen suspects he's looking pretty panicked himself, because Jared is giving him a reassuring smile. "This is my friend Jensen. I told you about him."
Jensen smiles back at Jared, and then kneels down so he's on Abby's level. "Hi, Abby. It's nice to meet you."
It's actually true. He's terrified of screwing this up somehow, but Jared loves her like crazy and talks about her all the time, and it's good to finally meet her.
"Hi," says Abby, shyly. She licks her lips, looking down, and then looks back up at him. "Papa said you had a cat."
Jensen blinks. "Yeah, I have a cat," he says, surprised. "Her name is Phoebe."
"Could I meet her?" Abby says, as if Jensen saying yes will make her entire life. Jensen flicks his eyes up to Jared. He's smiling, like this is the best thing he's ever seen, but when he sees Jensen looking he nods.
"I think so, yeah. She's a nice cat."
This is mostly true. At least, she's nice to strangers, and restricts her biting and angry meowing to just Jensen, who is her favorite.

"Really?" asks Abby. She's grinning. It's actually adorable.
"Really," says Jensen.
"Why don't we go to dinner first," says Jared, scooping Abby up.
She looks at him a little warily. "And then cat?"
"And then cat," Jared agrees. He offers Jensen his hand. "Ready for dinner?"
"Yeah," says Jensen. He squeezes Jared's fingers. "Ready."
