Money Well Spent

Ever since I got my netbook (an Asus EEE PC 900) I've really liked the little thing. But, it's been of little use due to it's one glaring flaw: the SSD it shipped with was horriffically fucking slow. Now, I can be paitient, but this was "go brew a pot of coffee, have a cup and come back while Windows loads" slow. Not acceptable speed to actually DO anything with.

I caved and ended up buying a drop-in replacement that had an internal SATA bus (the one it had was PATA) as well as being rated significantly faster. As a bonus, the capacity was double the old one, I went from 16GB to 32GB while also giving it a major boost in speed.

The first time I cranked it up after ghosting the contents of the old SSD onto the new one, I was blown away. Windows loaded in like 45 seconds from cold boot. Previously, it'd been several minutes, and with the disk activity light on solid for a minute or two past then as well.

Anything disk-related (reads, writes, swapping) is easily a solid 4x faster than it was previously. Very much worth the cost of the upgrade.
