Hell, I've been putting off posting for so long I don't even know where to begin (again).
It was nice out a while back, so I decided to do some minor work on the car. I backed it in so that the sheet of ice on the driver's side would finally fucking melt so that I could actually open the cover of the gas tank without a chisel, and it only took about ten minutes of direct sunlight for it to sheet off. It had been quite a nice day. I then put the heated seat covers I'd got at work onto my seats. Nothing fancy, but they work well, and fit fine, so I was happy. Also tried to put the new bulbs in, but I couldn't seem to get the retention rings off to remove the old ones, and I didn't want to risk breaking the 12-year-old plastic, so I put it off.
Ended up putting those bulbs in with the help of (
prostudent42) and his girlfriend a few nights later, and was pleasantly surprised at the noticeable difference that they made. Also, I've realized that I definitely need a new hood. The current one is beyond salvaging, and will most likely rust the first inch and a half completely to dust within one more year of Syracuse weather.
Finally got around to wiring in the KVM switch, and made some... pleasant discoveries. Apparently, I can't find my AT-PS2 keyboard adapters, so I need to order more of them before I can test two of the machines in the rack. Also, only one of the three ATX machines decided to power on (Zaphod, the Dual P3 machine running BeOS). Lovely, that. Looks like I have to rip two of them out and probably install new power supplies, at best. Ah well, such is the nature of all the technology I own. If you leave it alone long enough, it will die.
Finally polished off that last third of that bottle of tequila that's been kicking around for a while. Holy shitballs. I was a happy drunk, but I think I drank it too fast. I went from lucidity to unconsciousness entirely too quickly for my taste. Next time, I shall consume more slowly.
Decided to bite the bullet and order a system I could afford on newegg's preferred account $2,000 limit. I managed to put together a rather nice four core (two duals) system for myself, with a few minor drawbacks. Gradually putting it together, as I can afford the time, and the additional parts (the custom-etched jolly roger case window looks like it's going to have to wait for now). I'll keep you updated here as that goes on, obviously.
This post has been gathering dust long enough, so I've decided to bring it to a close, and just make another one after it with the rest. :P
