The Birds
This morning, I stumbled out of bed and got dressed. On my way to work I heard a news report on the radio saying that Congress Avenue was shut down from Ceasar Chavez (First Street) all the way to the capital building and one block on either side of Congress because there were a bunch of dead birds everywhere, and the phenomenon was still being investigated. I work at Congress and 3rd.
I thought it was a joke at first, but shortly after I heard the report I received a phone call from Sheila saying not to bother coming to work right now because the police department isn’t letting anyone through. Its pretty incredible that Austin would shut down all of Congress Avenue (the heart of downtown Austin) on account of a bunch of dead grackles, but I’m sure there’s something more to the story.
