I had my first “run around like a chicken with my head cutoff” crazy litigation experience Monday through Wednesday of last week and then again yesterday. I worked thirty hours in 3 days getting deposition exhibits ready. I’ve got to tell y’all... it was so much fun! No really, it was. I’m not sure I could do this on a regular basis, but I really enjoyed the fast pace. It was kind of like a big treasure hunt. Apparently our litigation department has never dealt with a defendant who was more difficult to get documents from. It’s seriously the “all those documents were destroyed in a flood” situation. Two weeks later, half of the destroyed documents get produced with no flood damage to speak of.
I don’t think my attorney had ever seen an Excel spreadsheet that didn’t come from an accountant’s office before. I suggested making spreadsheets so we could determine totals on distributions and loans taken out by the trustee, and be able to find each individual check or deposit easily with a corresponding bates number column. It all seemed pretty basic to me, but now I’m the Excel expert of the office. I’m not sure if this is a good thing, but at least they haven’t started regretting the decision to hire me-yet.
