Woke to the news that my story "Conversations With the Dead" has sold to PostScripts. That's my second sale to them. "A Crack in the Ceiling of the World" will appear in their December issue, and "Conversations With the Dead" will, obviously, appear in a future edition.
Watched a couple films recently:
The Wolfman is, despite a stellar cast, pretty forgettable. Benicio Del Toro is, frankly, terrible in the film. He's almost as wooden as Justin Long. The cinematography and sets are gorgeous. And there's enough blood and grue to please the hardcore horror fan. The problem is the film couldn't decide if it was camp or homage.
Much better was The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I've not read the book. Plotwise, this is pretty standard thriller fare, overall. The interesting part here is the main characters, and their back-stories, especially Lisbeth Salander (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), played remarkably by Noomi Rapace. There's some horrific stuff here, some of it hard to watch, but, ultimately, it's a rewarding experience. Despite being almost 2 and a half hours long, the last 20 minutes are a bit rushed.
