Invincible!

Excellent day!

Granted, it didn't start out so well - woke up about 10 minutes before I was meant to catch my train to get to work. (My alarm clock didn't go off. I know I didn't sleep through it because I can't sleep through the thing... it's so horrible and grating and I hate it but it's usually effective. Sometimes it just refuses to believe I've actually set it, though, and refuses to turn on.)

So I rushed and my mum dropped me off in the city so I was still early for work. Of course, my supervisor was a little late but it wasn't disastrous since it was actually quiet when we had to open so we got stuff done. Then it got busy, but I like being busy on bar because I like making drinks.

I love not dreading shifts. I walked past City Square on the way to work this morning. It was open already and probably busy. I was just happy to keep on walking. I realise now I probably should have asked for a transfer from City Square considering how bad it made me feel most of the time. It's like a revelation, hey, work can actually be fun and I don't actually have to accept feeling tired and drained all the time.

4am start tomorrow, but even that's not so bad. I'm more of a closing barista than an opening one, though. Openings are nice because it feels like less work (once you've opened, cleaned and stocked things, then you're free to concentrate on serving customers, and when your shift's over you just head home). Closers have to steadily clear up, clean up, shut things down and set up for the next day while being able to serve customers till the end. And you have to stay till stuff's done otherwise it's just not fair.

I found a barista's blog the other day, which reminded me of a lot of things I had to deal with at City Square (and a few of which I deal with nowadays too). It's called barista brat. (Granted, she doesn't use capitalisation but I can hardly judge since I used to avoid it too.) Reading it  only makes me like work more. And the barista there also talks about the parts she loves about work too, which I can relate to. There was an elderly couple who came in today while we were quiet, called themselves "country bumpkins" and said they were just visiting the city. Since it was quiet I took out their food and drinks to them, and got to talk to them a bit. Another lady was surprised how quickly I made her flat white. I like those sorts of moments.

While I was working I mentioned I'd probably go down to Minotaur after work, and my supervisor (the one who likes comics and books and is going to be leaving soon) asked to tag along too, since he's also a Minotaur fan. So we went down together and both spent money and talked about books and movies and comics and games and all things good.

I got Invincible, a comic I'm sure has been recommended before but hadn't gotten round to reading yet. He got a few books and comics too, both of us fully aware of how frivolous the spending was, but it was fun.

After that I headed home and have not done much else. I should probably type up my law stuff since I'm meeting my partner after work tomorrow.

In any case, one more week before the midsemester break! Yay!

PS - Tomorrow is apparently Free Hugs Day. (There's a facebook group, so it must be true!) I expect to see some hugging, people!
