Friday night, I half-dozed through the first half of Fringe's One Night in October, and I realized something I never fully noticed before: When I'm focussed on just listening to the show, Altlivia's voice is subtly different from Olivia's. (I'm highly visual, so the nuances of aural details often escape me.) It's a touch lower, a little more gravelly, and reminds me a bit of Jeri Ryan's voice. I mean, I could tell which Olivia was speaking simply by the voice. So. Anna Torv wins more points for her awesomeness in portraying the same character in different ways.
I have this thing that when I have been anticipating a particular new ep (or book to read, or whatever), sometimes I put it off due to a combination of delayed gratification (it will be even better for the waiting!) and a fear that it can't live up to my expectations. As such, I didn't watch WH13 and Haven's Christmas eps until this morning.
How much do I love that the Warehouse has a Christmas aisle? No, really, how much do I love that? THIS MUCH. And I can't explain why, exactly, but I do. And I also love all the little references to/use of artifacts from past eps; this show has a pretty good track record for continuity. And for some reason I always forget how completely awesome this show is when I've gone a while without watching it, but then I watch an ep and I am reminded of its greatness.
Aside: For S3 I have been working under the theory that Pete is half in love with Myka but that she loves him as her BFF. This ep reinforces that theory.
Other Aside: There was a Myka on the volleyball team this year, and there was totally a 'Mee-ka' vs 'My-ka' pronunciation discussion (à la the pilot ep) between her and another player, which cracks me up.
I didn't get my winter-in-Haven ep, darnit. But that's okay because I liked it anyway, even if it was kinda cheesy in places. I think my favourite part was Duke; even though his one-liners are often predictable, he just delivers them perfectly. And the Audrey/Nathan was completely lacking in subtlety, which is okay this time around. ;) (I have vids lined up on the 'watch later' queue for YouTube that I am fairly certain will be incorporating scenes from this ep.)
Anyone else keep thinking of the STNG ep Remember Me?
I am glad to know Haven's population. I like knowing these things.
Stephen King's Under the Dome is sitting (as yet unread) on my end table. The nod to another King book made me smile.
Unrelated to this particular ep: I cracked open my S1 box set last night. About half of the French titles are the same as the English ones; the odd ones out are Consumed (Epidemic), Sketchy (Portrait of an Assassin), Ain't No Sunshine (The Shadow that Kills), As You Were (The Chameleon), The Hand You're Dealt (The Hand that Kills), and Resurfacing (Bis Repetita, which seems to be part of a Latin saying, and something along the lines of repeating or patterns or again). And Spiral is The Spiral, which is only interesting in that I'd always thought of that title in the verb sense and not the noun. So.
(I find this stuff interesting, okay? And I may watch some eps in French if only to see if/when they change from the more formal 'vous' to the less formal 'tu' between certain characters because this interests me as well.)
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have YouTube vids to watch and laundry to start. Possibly in that order, because I have my priorities.
