This morning, at around 4, I half-woke from a dream. In my not!awake state, it seemed that I could still hear a voice from the dream I was having (but couldn't and still can't remember).
vicki_james98 was headed towards what I thought was the bathroom. I thought I heard a phone ring* and heard her say "crap" and didn't really know what was going on. The the 'voice from my dream' turned out to be the nighttime (or early morning, in this case) desk manager making an announcement that a fire alarm had been tripped and to please stand by for further instructions. Really?!?!! It was like Polaris 22 and our
multiple escapes from fiery death all over again! (ETA: "Except this time we got to stay in bed." -- Kath)
Except not, thankfully. They were able to verify it was a false alarm before we had to evacuate (although he came back on five minutes after the 'don't worry, false alarm!' announcement to say again it was a false alarm and there was no need to leave the hotel, so some people either didn't hear the first time or didn't believe it).
It was also nicer to be wakened by a voice rather than a really, really loud alarm. On the other hand, it would be easier to sleep through that, and how long do they take to verify an alarm before setting off the actual warning for a real fire? If it were a real fire, that extra minute or three could make a huge difference. But all's well that ends well.
We have decided that it's the combination of the three of us at the same con. Clearly our power is enough to set off alarms. We must use these powers for good.
*There was no alarm, so I'm not sure about the ringing phone I thought I heard. Maybe it was coming from another room?
