A few bits and bobs cross-posted from my Facebook, as I think the readership there and here have completely seperated out. Will probably post here more often now that I'm starting to actively engage in fandom again, and am finding that it's really helping distract me from my boredom and angst.

Tennessee Tea Party Groups Issue Demand On How Textbooks Portray 'Minority Experience In History' Fuuuck you. I could take a couple minutes to rephrase that more elegantly, but my point would still be "fuck you". Fuck you, and your appalling, disturbing, frankly dangerous attitude towards history. Don't teach anything true if it's unpleasant to the status quo! Don't teach about minorities unless you really, really have to, and then pad it with as much racist double-talk as you can. Fuck fuck fuck you.
- Several observations made during the Jets-Patriots game (which I was an audience for because if I feel like chatting with my dad on Sundays, there's probably a football game on in the background) ...
* time flows more normally in a black hole than a football game
* the wide spectrum of physical fitness on a football team is interesting ... on the one end, you have the refrigerator-sized human barrier guys with big fat guts slopping over their pants, and on the other, you have dudes that can do multiple backflips when they win.
* the ridiculous victory dance the Jets do where they pretend to be actual jets, wheeling around with their arms out like five year olds going "airpane! airpane!".
Aaand that's about the limit to the entertainment value of football for me (beyond the traditional Super Bowl chili made by my mom, Pope of Chilitown). So not a sports person.
- Read an article in Smithsonian about mammoths and/or mastadons ... the word "mastadon" comes from the Greek for "breasts" and "teeth", because according to the magazine, "to the young French anatomist Georges Cuvier, the conical cusps [on the teeth] looked like breasts". You know you're repressed/a bit too into mammoths when you start looking at petrified elephant teeth and going "BOOBIES!"
- A compilation of all the first season end-credits dance sequences on Strangers With Candy.
click cause YouTube won't embed it for some reasonI love watching people dance. Maybe in part because I'm so bad at it.
- I want to do a DS9 vid, since that's the fandom I'm in deepest now, but I'm not sure where to start. I have a DS9 playlist with potential choices, some serious, some lulzy (my brother is heartily in support of a "Material Girl" Ferengi vid). Maybe I'll just start a couple and see which develop best.
