Went with Mar to an all night horror movie marathon at the Huntington Arts Cinema. (We'd seen a double-feature of "Zombieland" and "Shaun of the Dead" a few weeks ago, and heard about this). Long, but a lot of fun.

They showed horror movie trailers before (Re-Animator, which I just saw and loved, got the biggest applause), and Looney Toons cartoons in between, which was amusing (the selection of two different episodes with, ah ... seriously dated depictions of Africa was a little confusing, though).

Black Sunday (1960): Ok, a bit creaky (but gorier than most American movies from the same time). Vaguely Hammer-ish feel. Why do people do such a shitty job with dubbing? It wasn't as bad as the awful dub job on "Let the Right One In" (watch it with subtitles, please), but it wasn't good, either.

Hausu/House (1977): Delirious Japanese horror movie. Like a trippy fever dream, in an entertaining way.

Inferno (1980): Like a trippy fever dream, in a decidedly not entertaining way. Here's my guide to making your own Dario Argento movie:

take ...

klieg lamps with Day-Glo filters
oil tanker's worth of fake, fake blood
black glove (1)
attractive ... ish women willing to get nude and stabbed

Loosely connect a series of violent set pieces until most of the cast is dead. Receive accolades.

Motel Hell (1980): Amusing entry in the "cannibal hillbilly killing spree" genre. Rory Calhoun wears a pig's head to a chainsaw fight.

The mystery movie ... Alien (1979)! Which I've seen many, many times. We left early, cause it was 8 am at that point. Still - woo, Alien.
