Dad happened to see The Pentamerone on the dining room table today. He's been with Mum long enough to know a book like that doesn't come cheap. Now, I make all my purchases on his account, so he'd eventually see that astronomical sum I spent on ( Read more... )

Your mother's a squib.

Not that terribly perceptive for a Ravenclaw.

It's often difficult to see the obvious answer when you're too close to it.

Granted. But wouldn't one apply the full power of one's intellect to such a great mystery?

How terribly odd, to not know your lineage. Although I suppose those living in the Muggle world are probably less focused on bloodlines.

Perhaps, but perhaps not. I often find that those who think themselves to have intelligence are often, in truth, sorely lacking it.

Well, not everyone can dwell on their family.

Applying one's full intellect does not in any way imply that it is a great one. And while House stereotypes are certainly less than accurate in many cases, Ravenclaws are often rumoured to be intelligent. Incidentally, your insult doesn't escape me.

Not on it, but in it. I have found it rather difficult to escape my family, and I cannot be alone in that.

Actually, I meant that as a general statement. I find it interesting that you took it personally. It seems you have some insecurity issues to address.

Of course you're not alone in that. According to the way you describe them, they follow you everywhere and are suffocating you from all sides. Makes me wonder when you'll finally become panicked enough from the loss of air and lash out. Malfoy's more spineless than you are and even he had the guts to make his own decisions.

Girls do what their mothers tell them to do. Ladies do what society tells them to do. Women decide for themselves. You're still attached to your mother's tit as far as I can see.

There. Now, that was an insult. Are you able to see the difference now, duckie, or shall I have to resort to using smaller words?

Oh, come now, we all know how the game is played.

Malfoy's decision was an extremely stupid one, as the same ends could have been gained without shaming his family, humiliating both his former betrothed and his current wife, and making a general spectacle of himself. All it would have taken was a little cunning. Further, unlike Malfoy, I am not unhappy with the eventual result of my current situation.

As far as you can see indeed.

Oh, pet, you can use words as small as will continue to make you feel superior. Whatever pleases you.

Susan, can you not taunt my girlfriend? For one day?

I believe she started it. But very well. I shall be nice.

Firstly, you're continuing it. Secondly, last comment? I don't appreciate being spoken of as if I were a thing to be won, as it's quite degrading.

princessofcups August 20 2004, 21:55:37 UTC
I did not speak of you as a thing, and there is nothing here to be won. I simply said that I do not find my future distasteful, and that I'm not trapped in something I loathe. And honestly, there is no need for me to act as if I am unhappy with our decisions simply because she dislikes me for a situation I did not cause.

I don't think I can explain this in a way that you'll understand.

Then I apoligise. I'd been making a sincere attempt to leave the two of you completely alone until she decided to come have a bit of a swipe at me. If she wants to play, I'll play, but making your life difficult was not my intention.

There are different types of intelligence, and some are regarded by the population at large as more important then others. Being able to do difficult maths and such at a young age is regarded as a sign of genius in the Muggle world.

but if you know all of the stories in Andrew Lang's Coloured Fairy Book series not just by heart, but by book, you're merely out of the ordinary.

You'd be surprised.

Some go beyond obsessed with their heritage.
