There is a Whole Foods store in Toronto, and I went shopping there once. I just needed a single jalapeno pepper for a recipe I was preparing. I found it and made my way to the check out, but it weighed so little that it didn't register on the scale. The cashier -- an attractive young man -- told me just to take it for free.

That is the extent of my purchases at Whole Foods.

Whole Foods is very much a Part of Life around Boston. The produce can be very good (not as good as it is in Europe, but good when local and fortunately marked as such). The prices can be a bit much. Butcher's section pretty good (lamb usually to be found). Fine cheese department. The main drawback is the clientele; too high a percentage of entitled mothers with spoiled brats accompanying them and then driving off in their SUVs which have been blocking off huge sections of the parking lot. If you shop at a Whole Foods during off hours, you can do pretty well.
I read in the Times (London) that London's Whole Foods didn't make that good an impression...but I'm glad you like it.

Yes the reviews were not very good, but we like to slate anything that's American! LOL!
As I write, we are nibbling away at some lovely rosemary Mancebo I bought there...

Wow. I had no idea Whole Foods had made it to Europe. I love WF, but it is pricey. We call it "Whole Wallet"/Whole Paycheck" in the States. However, I can't resist their two-bite scones, vegetable pate, and take-out meals.

I won't be doing my food shopping there but it's perfect for a treat every now and then..
