On our last day, we took the ferry back from Gozo to Malta (25 minutes) and then stopped at Mellieha in the north-west of the island
where we visited one of the many air raid shelters dug in WWII.
The strategic position of the islands made them (one of) the most bombed place(s) in the war.
Apparently each inhabitant of this town were allocated only 2 square feet (0.6 m)!
I felt claustrophobic just visiting the empty place.
After this, it was time for some fresh air. We went to a panoramic point from which you could see two lovely bays
and later on a boat trip to the Blue Grotto (and some others nearby)
We had our last meal of the holiday (scampi & chips) on a terrace overlooking the sea and then just enough time to visit two more 5,500 year old Neolithic temples (Hagar Qim and Mnajdra) before returning the car to the airport.
The only thrill on the flight home was flying over Paris on a beautiful clear night: we managed to spot the Eiffel Tower even though it was sooooooo tiny!
At the airport we had a double surprise: the drop in temperature (from 18 C to 0 C) and seeing the lovely Lynne and Miranda waiting for us!
