Day 6 saw us travelling to Gozo where we spent the last couple of nights.
Just before catching the ferry
we visited the Red Tower, a small fortress built by the Knights to protect the stretch of sea between Malta and Gozo (and Comino).
It was a beautiful sunny day, but very windy.
Out first stop in Gozo was the Ggantija Temples which are apparently the oldest man-made structures still standing in the world, having been built around 3600 BC:
Truth to be told, they are not quite freestanding any longer as they are supported in a number of places by scaffolding, and well they were not that impressive either!
In Xaghra we visited a windmill (without its sails, under repair) and in the afternoon north-east Gozo: Ramla Bay
and Calypso's Cave
You'll be pleased to hear that the nymph's charms didn't work on us and that she didn't manage to keep us captive for 7 years like poor Odysseus!
(lovely view but the cave is just a crack in the rock and could do with a few home improvements!)
Last stop were the salt pans along the coast - we didn't drive far as the road surface was rather bad.
Before a huge dinner at the hotel (it lived up to its name - Cornucopia Hotel!) we enjoyed a spot of sunset:
