I have always been fascinated by coincidences: part of me wonders if they are really fortuitous events or if there is some hidden meaning, or even a mysterious plan behind.
As a keen daydreamer, I can quite happily spend a few hours speculating about it.
Yesterday I was in a "carpe diem" mood - probably due to recent events.
I threw (monetary) caution to the wind and decided to book a long week-end for
london1952's birthday at the end of September.
I wrote down in Adrian's diary "Surprise! Do not book anything" on those dates: that way, I thought, he would have a double surprise.
Only a few hours later, Adrian got his first job since he was made redundant in November.
It's only for 6 days and exactly for the dates we'll be away.
(The very short temp position is to help his ex-boss at one of Chelsea Design Centre's trade fair).
So the birthday surprise was partly spoiled as I had to tell him I booked a trip to... Dungeness.
Another recent coincidence is rather more sombre.
On Friday I chatted to our friend Jim who told me that he was still in shock from finding his friend Bernard dead the week before.
It turned out that Jim and Ross' friend was the same Bernard that
erstexman knew and met when holidaying over here 3 weeks ago. It appears that Evan was probably the last friend to see him alive, a few hours before he passed away in the middle of the night.
I didn't think I knew him but looking at the
pictures taken on Ross' 60th birthday in Feb 2008 I realised I sat next to him at dinner.
