Over the weekend, I got my February issue of Seventeen magazine. I got around to reading it later in the week and came across a feature about a young Iranian girl who may be hanged for defending herself. When Nazanin was 17 three men threw her, along with her 16-year-old niece, to the ground and tried to rape them. Nazanin took a knife from her pocket and stabbed one man in the hand. She stabbed another man in the chest, killing him. Under Iranian law being a victim of rape is a crime, and a woman's life is worth is worth twice as much as any man's. Nazanin was sentenced to hang to death. A former Miss World Canada helped spread Nazanin's story and started an online petition. Nazanin's retrial was held January 10th, 2007, but no written verdict has been reached. Although the retrial has already taken place, you can still show your support by signing the petition and by spreading the word.

Sign the petition and read more about Nazanin at helpnazanin.com

Thanks everyone =)
