"Thank you..." she nodded, handing over her bag carefully and glancing towards the kitchen, starting towards it as Afonso spoke. She put a finger to her lips, humming softly. "I do not cook often with fish!" she admitted, glancing back and smiling still. "Maybe you could teach me a recipe? I love trying new ones... I am going to have to bake you a stuffed apple pancake one of these days..."
She started to quietly mumbled to herself, recalling the vast recipebook that she kept by memory as she shuffled into the kitchen. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and glanced over at him again, pausing in the doorway and leaning against it, smiling. "But as long as I'm with you I don't mind what we eat. It will all taste good."

Her last comment made the brunette blush, and he couldn't help but smile. Man,s he was pretty. Reaching forward to take her hand, Afonso squeezed it. "Let me get you an apron so you don't mess up your clothes, and we'll get started."

"Would it... be much to ask for- proper hello?" she asked softly, lips still slightly parted. Her heart raced, cheeks flushing all over again as the coil of nerves in her gut tightened that much more. "A- potsilunok?"

Afonso knew that word.
Grinning mischievously, Afonso grabbed her by the waist and shoulder and dipped the girl down for a kiss. Good God, he'd been wanting to do that for weeks now.

"O-Oh Affie-" her eyes peeked up at him, cheeks pink. "You are very romantic~"

"Alright, lets get started then!" Practically hopping off to the cabinet and resisting the urge to spin in a circle, Afonso returned with two aprons and grabbed her hand, bounding with energy.

Afonso really was a gift. He was just so... happy. It was worlds apart from her home with Ivan and Natalia- she could barely ever get them to talk to her, much less cook with her or... laugh. "Okay! Where do we start with?"

Smiling, the brunette handed her two golden potatoes and offered a grin, then busied himself with a saucepan and the codfish he'd prepped the night before. This time he'd been prepared for everything, so nothing would go wrong, like the last time. After all, the last thing Katya needed was more stress. "If you'd chop these for me, I'll get started on the fish."

Glancing over at Katya, he had to resist the urge to smile. She was so cute, so determined like that! "What kind of things do you cook with potatoes? I'll have to try some of your recipes sometimes too!"
Reply
"Let's see- there's pampushki, which is basically a fried potato ball with cheese in the middle. I know a lot of different potato salads, potato pancakes, babka, which is more of a dessert, but I can make it out of potatoes too! Oh-! And of course kartoplyana, potato soup!" she beamed at him, counting off on her fingers and laughing slightly to herself.
"I like having lots of recipes..."

Afonso leaned against the counter and smiled at her, wiping his hands on his apron. "So, what do you think of the nursing program here? Are you enjoying it?"

No one else would have to know of course...
Katya was snapped out of her thoughts as Afonso asked her a question and she blinked, eyes refocusing and her smile stretching wide again. "Oh-Oh yes! Da! It is a very good class, much more... in depth? Than the classes I took back home. They are lots of work but it is good work! I am hoping I will be able to help lots of people- and... da. Paycheck is good too, yes?" she smiled a bit sheepishly.

Course he had been. She'd nearly dropped off the face of the Earth. But, Afonso had known why she did so, and he ventured a hand out to take hers and hold it gently, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles. "But I'm really glad to be seeing you now."

She glanced up, lips parted and eyes half-mast. "But I am very happy to see you to Affie..." she said softly.

He wouldn't have pulled it away, but the egg timer buzzed impatiently in his ear, and the brunette laughed a little, turning back towards the stove. "Ah! Alright, let's finish this. Can you pass me the olive oil?"
