Katya followed the Port inside quietly, stomach doing flips at the grin that Afonso was giving her and cheeks a deeper red as his lips pressed against her cheek. She breathed out shakily and held her bag in front of her, heart still thudding- it had already been a month, but with how busy she had been it was still technically only in their single digits of dates and the newness hadn't even started to wear off.

"Thank you..." she nodded, handing over her bag carefully and glancing towards the kitchen, starting towards it as Afonso spoke. She put a finger to her lips, humming softly. "I do not cook often with fish!" she admitted, glancing back and smiling still. "Maybe you could teach me a recipe? I love trying new ones... I am going to have to bake you a stuffed apple pancake one of these days..."

She started to quietly mumbled to herself, recalling the vast recipebook that she kept by memory as she shuffled into the kitchen. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and glanced over at him again, pausing in the doorway and leaning against it, smiling. "But as long as I'm with you I don't mind what we eat. It will all taste good."

Setting her bag somewhere safe and out of reach, Afonso followed after her, perking like a puppy at the mention of teaching recipes. "Sure! I was thinking we could make bacalhoada --it's like a stew. It's one of my favorites, and it's not too hard to make!"

Her last comment made the brunette blush, and he couldn't help but smile. Man,s he was pretty. Reaching forward to take her hand, Afonso squeezed it. "Let me get you an apron so you don't mess up your clothes, and we'll get started."

The Ukrainian sighed contently and kept her grip tight on his hand, pulling him just a little bit closer. She smiled at him and the corner of her lip twitched slightly up, curling as she stood up straight. "Just... one second Afonso..." she said quietly, her other hand reaching up to cup the Port's slightly scruffy jaw.

"Would it... be much to ask for- proper hello?" she asked softly, lips still slightly parted. Her heart raced, cheeks flushing all over again as the coil of nerves in her gut tightened that much more. "A- potsilunok?"

Oh.

Afonso knew that word.

Grinning mischievously, Afonso grabbed her by the waist and shoulder and dipped the girl down for a kiss. Good God, he'd been wanting to do that for weeks now.

Lips sparking to life, Katya barely had time to respond to the lips against her own before she suddenly squeaked into the kiss, her center of gravity disrupted as Afonso dipped her back. Her arms quickly wrapped around his neck and she smiled softly into the kiss, laughing quietly.

"O-Oh Affie-" her eyes peeked up at him, cheeks pink. "You are very romantic~"

Grinning like a pleased schoolboy, Afonso brought her back up to her feet and brushed off her shoulders. "I try!" He did. He was proud of himself for pulling that off.

"Alright, lets get started then!" Practically hopping off to the cabinet and resisting the urge to spin in a circle, Afonso returned with two aprons and grabbed her hand, bounding with energy.

Katya giggled at her boyfriend's antics and snatched up the apron, quickly and deftly tying hers around her back and heading over towards the counter, glancing around. "You are so hyper dear~" she gave him a small smile and leaned over to kiss his cheek again.

Afonso really was a gift. He was just so... happy. It was worlds apart from her home with Ivan and Natalia- she could barely ever get them to talk to her, much less cook with her or... laugh. "Okay! Where do we start with?"

It wasn't so much hyper as... exhilarated. Being with Katya was something he adored, and he thrived off of making her happy. They were good for eachother.

Smiling, the brunette handed her two golden potatoes and offered a grin, then busied himself with a saucepan and the codfish he'd prepped the night before. This time he'd been prepared for everything, so nothing would go wrong, like the last time. After all, the last thing Katya needed was more stress. "If you'd chop these for me, I'll get started on the fish."

Giving him a curt and determined nod, Katya smiled more and turned towards the cutting board, setting the potatoes down. She quickly rolled up her sleeves and washed her hands in the skin before starting on her assigned job, humming slightly. "I use potatoes a lot in my cooking," she hummed. "They are really just so good in everything- especially stew! So what are you doing with the fish over there-?" she questioned, glancing over her shoulder again curiously.

Afonso did the same, tucking his bangs behind his ears before carefully putting the first pieces of fish in a saucepan. "At the moment, simmering this in a mixture of milk and water. You put it in just enough to cover it: too much and you drown it. It also tastes less fishy through this."

Glancing over at Katya, he had to resist the urge to smile. She was so cute, so determined like that! "What kind of things do you cook with potatoes? I'll have to try some of your recipes sometimes too!"

Katya nodded and making a mental note of the steps of the recipe and turning back to the potatoes, quickly finishing chopping them and gathering them into a neat pile. "Oh my... what don't I make with them?" she laughed, turning and facing him again.

"Let's see- there's pampushki, which is basically a fried potato ball with cheese in the middle. I know a lot of different potato salads, potato pancakes, babka, which is more of a dessert, but I can make it out of potatoes too! Oh-! And of course kartoplyana, potato soup!" she beamed at him, counting off on her fingers and laughing slightly to herself.

"I like having lots of recipes..."

Afonso stared at her as she spoke, dreamy-eyed. Seriously, what did he do to have a girlfriend like this? Apparently something really, really right. Turning back to his fish with that same dopey smile on his face, the Portuguese smiled. "That all sounds delicious. Ah--okay, here, just a second." Carefully taking out the fish, he stirred the mixture of milk and water, adding a bit more before putting the potatoes in the mixture. " Okay, now we just have to parbroil these for about twenty minutes. You can do it in regular water, but I think this adds more flavor to it."

Afonso leaned against the counter and smiled at her, wiping his hands on his apron. "So, what do you think of the nursing program here? Are you enjoying it?"

Watching Afonso work, Katya couldn't help but think the same. She must have really done something right to get a guy like this- sweet, adorable, a cook even. And one who writes poems! Really, she never even expected to end up with someone, much less someone so... less traditional than where she was from. But she could always- just bend the rules a little, right?

No one else would have to know of course...

Katya was snapped out of her thoughts as Afonso asked her a question and she blinked, eyes refocusing and her smile stretching wide again. "Oh-Oh yes! Da! It is a very good class, much more... in depth? Than the classes I took back home. They are lots of work but it is good work! I am hoping I will be able to help lots of people- and... da. Paycheck is good too, yes?" she smiled a bit sheepishly.

He nodded, completely oblivious to whatever Katya was thinking, and smiled at her. "It seems like the perfect job for you. I'm really glad it's going well! I'll admit, I've been worried."

Course he had been. She'd nearly dropped off the face of the Earth. But, Afonso had known why she did so, and he ventured a hand out to take hers and hold it gently, rubbing his thumb over her knuckles. "But I'm really glad to be seeing you now."

"I never meant to worry lyubov..." Katya said softly, bowing her head slightly and pulling him a little closer, comfortably nestling herself in his chest and taking his other hand as well. She held them both gently, sighing contently and smiling. "Sometimes I focus too much... I forget other very important things."

She glanced up, lips parted and eyes half-mast. "But I am very happy to see you to Affie..." she said softly.

Ohhh God why was she so cute. That face was almost unfair. Leaning forward, Afonso closed the distance between them and kissed her, long and slow.

He wouldn't have pulled it away, but the egg timer buzzed impatiently in his ear, and the brunette laughed a little, turning back towards the stove. "Ah! Alright, let's finish this. Can you pass me the olive oil?"
