Sindre eyed the puffin over the top of his book. He swore it was staring back at him. And though getting into a staring contest with a bird was a bit silly, keeping an eye on it to make sure it didn't go anywhere damaging was perfectly acceptable ( ... )

Valdi blinked, snapping his head up to look from Sindre to the small bird nested on the back of the couch. (Oh god, they really did have a real Puffin!)

Excitement subdued by guilt and confusion, Valdi turned his attention back to his brother. "I...don't know. I can move it into the bathroom if you want."

Well, this certainly wasn't the scolding he was expecting, but that did not convince the teen that he'd escaped it entirely. He knew Sindre would want to know when, where, why, how much and why he didn't tell him first.

Please don't bite me

Ripping open the bag Valdi fished out one of the small sand-eels he'd picked up on the way home- the Puffin snapped it up in seconds.
"See. Just hungry."

He wondered how long he could avoid Sindre's questioning for.

Shruggin, Sindre responded, "Still. You should have looked into it before buying the puffin," then grimaced internally. That came out harsher than intended. "I can talk to the super tomorrow, if you want, and then we can go get...what we need to care for it," he added in what he hoped was a conciliatory tone. With any luck, Valdi knew what they needed to care for the bird. Sindre knew nothing about how to manage a pet bird ( ... )
